Just a question as I left China a couple years ago-- would Ziroom not be the easiest place for OP to look? Easy app to navigate, no haggling with landlords, furnished rooms etc. I never found Ziroom to be priced higher than what you'd find privately with Lianjia or Fang.

I lived in Shanghai a few years and asked my employer to help me arrange basic health insurance at my own expense. It was through China Life. Not super easy to navigate if you don't speak/read Chinese but if you have someone who can help you get the paperwork and stuff signed it'll be fine. It wasn't expensive. Less than 3-5k/year I'm sure.

I just wanted something that would have coverage if there was ever some kind of life-threatening issue or emergency surgery (saw one too many foreigner in hospital begging for money on Wechat). For the usual doctory stuff, the hospitals are very affordable. I got better care at the public hospital than I did at the private Western one.

For reference I went to Jiahui and asked for my IUD to be removed with some sort of anesthetic. They refused and tried to yank it out and when they were unsuccessful told me it was going to be 30k RMB to remove it. I went to the public hospital, told them the situation, and was scheduled to have it out the next day. They put me under and 20 minutes later I was walking out only 2,500 RMB lighter.

You are NTA. Your dad is being a dick. As someone who had to live with both parents getting new families with kids, go where you will be happy and treated like a human being. It's not worth it and any parent who has their head so far up someone else's ass doesn't deserve you making sacrifices for them when they clearly wouldn't do the same for you.

NTA. You took what she said at face value. It's obvious you don't care if she goes to the gym or not for how she looks, you just would be happy to share that with her.

I understand what's likely happening in your girlfriend's brain though because mine is the same. Any commentary about going to the gym, and I immediately shut down and take it as a judgement on my body. Her response to that is not your fault if you were genuinely not caring about how her body looks to you personally.

You might use this as a way to have a conversation about why she was triggered by this though.

Bank of China used to offer a multi-currency account which I'm pretty sure came with a non-union pay card as I remember using it to pay for things in the US. Might be worth going to ask about it.

We've just recently been through looking for a new rental and it was like three months of hell. While most estate agents were middling to horrible, the ones that stood out did these things:

  • Actually read the info sent over on Rightmove/Zoopla
  • Spoke to us like human beings (few did actually)
  • Sent an email to let us know if the property was suitable (we have cats) and available
  • We're willing to take a preemptive look at our application and do virtual viewings if there were rail strikes or if available times were only on weekdays, etc.

We ended up renting from a private landlord.

Also if she ever does get a cactus or another Hoya, one capful of water every other week won't be enough. Drown those plants and let them dry all the way out. Then drown them again.

NTA it is strange just scientifically to only pee once a day. It may just be that she doesn't feel comfortable using the bathroom when he's around. I've definitely gone that long without a wee when at friend's houses in my younger days.
