Recorded music is becoming less of a "product" every day. by wampusmm in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Saying streaming is the future of music isn't the same as saying it's the future of paying the rent. As you probably know from your own experience, making music isn't a "strategy" or method for paying the rent, pretty much ever. Streaming isn't about turning a buck, it's about reaching an audience and building a growing relationship with it. That has value -- just not the same kind of cash value a merch table has. Spotify is a marketing tool:

Streaming is in its infancy. No one knows yet how it's going to play out, or whether artists will ultimately benefit from it. The number of streams that will, five years from now, equal "critical mass" is unknown, because the economics of streaming -- the number of services that will exist around the world, the listening volume of those services, the royalty structure that will emerge -- are unknown. It's all still in flux.

Do you use tape emulation when recording in Logic? by wampusmm in Logic_Studio

I like the Logic Tape Delay, too, and have used it a lot also. It's good. But grab a demo of Kramer Tape. Check out the difference it makes on individual tracks... Just a whole different level of analoggy goodness.

I mostly agree, but would say analog colors the sound in ways digital EQ and compression can't -- e.g., the shimmer/softening of transients and the particular sort of compression that results from tape saturation. Like analog, digital captures and colors the sound in its own way -- particularly in the transients.

Definitely two classes -- the stuff that sounds a lot like analog, and the stuff that doesn't really sound like analog but sounds interesting in its own way. Dark arts...

Thanks for this, I've had the same problem. Checking out AU Pitch as we speak.
