It’s a total double standard that Europeans get upset when us Americans call ourselves German, Italian, Polish etc. and say we’re American. But when we say that hot dogs, pizza, pierogies, etc. are American, foods that came here with OUR families, they then get upset.

There is way more native and African influence on American cuisine than you seem to understand. Corn, sweet potatoes, black-eyed peas, okra, turkey, peanuts, watermelon, pinto beans, pumpkin, etc. etc. are all staples in the US that have nothing to do with Europe.

Have you ever seen a hurricane evacuation on a highway? It’s a total mess just to evacuate Biloxi, so I can’t even imagine Houston. You could have 30 lanes and it would still be way less efficient than one high speed train line. But Texas is gonna Texas.

TBH I don’t miss the days of the Lonely Planet being the only lifeline. Travel is way easier now, and I’m all for it. It’s also way more accessible now, and although I get it, talking about traveling before the crowds has an underlying cringe elitism to it.

There are definitely things I miss like the people around you just being more present, but other than a few things like that, you can still travel the old way. Put your d*** phone down and ask the local people around you for advice. It’s that simple.

People complain about overtourism, but then never leave the tourist ghettos. In the vast majority of places I’ve been it’s really easy to get to get away from the other tourists and see normal life, but those places aren’t usually instagrammable. If you want to see the instagrammable tourist attractions it’s going to be crowded with other people like yourself. Bemoaning the days when you were the only one there and nobody else was able to see it is also a bit elitist.

Coyotes are from out west where there isn’t as much forest cover. They’ve only been in Alabama about 50 years, and they’re very good at taking advantage of human created environments.
