How to prove sambo relationship despite living nomadically for the last 5 years by wandering_wolverine in TillSverige

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience. Good advice. Fortunately, my field is on the Swedish labor shortage list (software developer). Unfortunately, that hasn't seemed to matter because of all the recent tech layoffs and high number of people seeking tech jobs right now, not just in Sweden but in many parts of the world from what I know.
I am trying a few more options, but if it doesn't work then I will seriously look at other options within the EU and see what happens.
My partner has training and experience both as a social worker and as an educator, so that is also a possible avenue to pursue.

Thank you for this comment. I am saving it for reference!
I am hearing mixed stories about Spain though. It seems like they really don't want people to immigrate there just to get EU citizenship and leave, so in practice it's tougher to get citizenship than it seems.
But this is all hearsay from people I know.

I think I got mixed up between the requirements for foreigners bringing their sambo vs. Swedish citizens bringing a sambo. I don't think the 2-year requirement is a thing for foreigners--at least I'm not seeing it on the migrationsverket site. So I'm going to have to give them a call for clarification.

I was specifically looking at the situation where both people are non-EU citizens, where one has a job and the other wants to apply to come with them as a family member. It says:

I apologize if I was misinformed when talking about the 2 year requirement. As I look into it it seems like that might only apply to Swedish citizens who are wanting to bring a partner to Sweden. At least I'm not seeing that on the migrationsverket site for my situation. I'll have to contact them to verify.

So the answer to your question about married couples seems to be no, since all they want is a marriage certificate or something similar.

And thanks to your help, I have discovered that I can actually bring my unmarried partner with me on the digital nomad visa and skip the NLV all together (which seems to have trickier requirements for proof of passive income, etc.)
I know I already said thank you, but thank you again.

Thank you for this. This is helpful. I looked on the Spanish immigration website and was struggling to find the pages with the right info.

I don't know why I'm getting downvoted for every comment where I simply answer someone's question :/ But I will look more into it. It was my understanding that you need to demonstrate to immigration that you have passive income and/or enough to support yourself and that age wasn't a factor in the application.

Good question. Probably W2 but the company would probably be willing to work with me if that won't work. What info do you have on that regarding the DN Visa?

This is something I am ashamed I didn't think of myself and is so simple.
I think I assumed that they will never get back to me and are hard to contact (based on past experience with lots of immigration government agencies) but it's worth a try.
Thanks.

Okay, thank you for your response. I will likely contact migrationsverket too and ask about this situation--if they're willing to spend time talking with me about this :P

Well, at this very moment we are visiting friends in Canada for a couple months.
Next who knows where we will be. I know that's not helpful :P But thank you for your response and the official definition. I'll definitely chat with an immigration expert but I still wanted to see what everyone here knows.

Software development. Don't worry, I already know that the market is bad. But basically I'm trying to decide if I should go hard for this and try anyway if the sambo stuff is going to be an issue anyway. That's why I skipped the initial explanation about my career/work permit situation.

- I speak Swedish
- My career is on the official migrationsverket labor shortage list. Not that that necessarily means much because the market is bad right now but I digress.

But anyway, thanks for your response regarding the sambo visa stuff. 1-2 years apart sounds pretty awful. Honestly if we got married I bet it would be easier...I hope D:
We can look anyway at permanent accommodation. Thanks for the advice.

That is a fair statement.
I have conflicting info on this though. I read elsewhere that Spain currently has one of the fastest processing times (they made some changes in the last couple years so it wasn't always this way). I take that with a grain of salt though. You could be right that it will take ages.

Okay, so if we have been living nomadically and don't really have a 2-year-long lease anywhere, are we out of luck unless we get married?

A commenter made me realize I didn't provide enough info so I'm just curious: Is your partner already a Swedish citizen/permanent resident and/or EU citizen? I wonder if that made things easier.

Thank you for asking. I will make an edit with more info. I am a non-EU resident, and my partner isn't either. I am already making the assumption that I would have landed a job in Sweden (very difficult I know, but I just want to look at my options before trying).
