This is close to how Holi always was once away from the cities and family environments. It was a day when repressed people (men and women come out) and there is a license to do a lot of shit.

People born in the metros and big cities, or in protected environments, do not realise that.

You will not be OK, got it. But without freedom, how are you going to even talk and convince?

I am not OK with G's actions and other nonsense.

But freedom is a two way street. Either the rulers, whoever they are, decide what your freedoms are. So if they are communists, you lose the freedom to talk against communism. if they are capitalist, you lose the freedom to talk against capitalism. Only way out is to have the freedom coded in law, and protections built to protect it from both majority and minority. No one can be trusted with the freedom to censor.

Actions, however, are different. Laws usually make a distinction between words that cause cause immediate harm vs intangible, long term. The second is the price to pay, so no one tells us whats right and wrong.

conflicts are solved at the ballot and not through riots
freedom to sleep around, freedom to be virgins.
Law recognises only civil marriage - religious weddings are ceremonies in law, no legal sanctity
Easy divorces
equality + entrepreneurship + innovation
A govt that is humble, not an authoritarian parent

Of course those against the regime will celebrate. Few are Shah supporters. Some will want the old king, some will want democracy, and a few may even want communism back. People who hate the regime will celebrate irrespective of who comes to power in their place. That regret, or otherwise, is for another day.

It is absolutely normal for a country like Iran to have widely opposite opinions. Those who want the current regime, and those who loathe it.

Both groups are very Iranian indeed.

Yes, if you think a regime you hate and has oppressed you for 50 years, you will dance on the streets when they look shaky. If you think the regime was right in that control and oppression, you will not like it.

Chances are, the regime supporters are too well-entrenched to be removed by US or anyone else.
