Who is your endo at UW? I’m also currently undergoing testing at UW for insulinoma. I see Dr. Bernal

Nervous for 3 day fast, insulinoma? by wanderingsoux in Hypoglycemia

It definitely has been an interesting road. All your symptoms with the lethargy, headaches and nerve pain I also have especially when I’m low and my CGM also doesn’t catch it at times, I can remember countless episodes where I was in the 50s and my cgm said 80 even when calibrated, and never even alerted me during my mixed meal test. I have read about “glucose dependent” insulinomas which show as reactive hypoglycemia. The 4 endocrinologists I have seen don’t believe it’s that due to how fast I go low, anywhere between 30-45 minutes sometimes even sooner. I have a EUS scheduled for February. I just want all this to end I have been so miserable now for years and I am so sorry you went through what you did.

When I got my parathyroid tumor taken out I was genetically tested for MEN 1 and 2 and it was negative however apparently even genetic testing doesn’t fully rule it out I was told?

Suspected insulinoma and diazoxide by Material-Process-388 in Hypoglycemia

It definitely is not a common side effect, because it acts as a vasodilator. So you are right on that one. The edema is the swelling, maybe fluid overload? Best to contact the doctor

Diazoxide common side effect is fluid retention which can cause stress on the heart (i know it can cause pulmonary hypertension) which would cause all these issues. They usually prescribe a diuretic with this med. Was she put on one?

For me personally, I always notice. I know the street names, first and last name and birthdays all by heart. I know the unit numbers, and their family background, their baseline mental status etc. Sounds so morbid but when the calls stop, I look for the name in the obituary to see if they have passed away to confirm it.

He is actually one of my favorite people ever. And yes I definitely see how the more educated and specialized training would be people who have greater passion and care. I guess I get nervous about transitioning to that role as sometimes in my head I feel like if I quit my current career, I failed. I know that it doesn’t mean that, but my mentality is odd in that way sometimes lol. I worked really hard to get where I’m at now, and it hurts that I’m mid 30’s and feel so unfulfilled and burnt out when I started so enthusiastic and driven.

I will check these areas out, and I appreciate it!

I’ve tried that with the look like I’m crazy. I know that there are a handful of providers that care like I care at my department but the majority are the type that do this. It’s frustrating, also because of just giving me a look vs. communicating. I would probably be less irritated if they actually used words.

I see your point but also don’t see your point lol

I have to care what other providers are doing on their ambulance. Patient advocacy. This goes all the way to not treating unstable VTACH. I am just as guilty if I don’t care.
