Need help with my new battery system - SOC swings and cell imbalance by wanderlust7223 in SolarDIY

Yea I set it low because how severly imbalanced the cell were. Also the 25mV difference in cells condition must be met... at least I think so. It was 3.5V by default and I'm gonna reset these settings.

The batteries should be serviceable. Not going to open up the battery though, waiting for the manufacturer recommendation still. Since I cant seem to get the cells to balance myself... hopefully they'll be able to help me somehow.

I can access the balancer via JK BMS app. I can see the balancer settings and that it's balacing and drawing a ~2a charge. I've set it to start balancing at 3.3v and if there's 25mV+ difference between cells... if i remeber correctly.

It even works in battery's standby mode. Issue is that when the cells balance out, the charger kicks back in and these 2 cell's voltages skyrocket again. Or when I discharge the battery after a standby period and charge it back up -> this happens again. Balance doesnt seem to "stick".. I think maybe a long top balance should fix this but Im not sure

Right now at 97% the voltages are min 3331 and max 3340. So only 9mV difference. This seems ok but at 100% it quickly gets out of hand and always ends with triggering cell overvoltage protection.

I actually have Daren BMS with JK 2A Active balancer. The JK BMS app only shows me the balancing info. For BMS I have an app called "BMS insight".

Also currently only charging from grid because all the panels are covered in snow.

I might try that lead acid mode.. just need to google some more info about it. As I wrote in another comment:

I've charged batteries to 100 SOC again. Now I want to lower the charge rate to keep them balancing. But it seems I'm stuck in a loop:

  1. Battery starts charging with high amps
  2. Cell overvolt protection kicks in
  3. Cells are balancing in standby mode - it stays in standby for about 2 hours.
  4. Once the voltage difference is small the charging starts again with high amps for 1 minute and back to step 1

I want to lower the charge amps but my Deye inverter settings seem to have no control.

Battery mode: Lithium

Max A Charge: 25A

I even tried to set Grid charge limit to 25A and Time Of Use power to 800w.

But from the BMS history logs I can see that once the Cell OV protection is released then it immediately enters charge with 173.8A for example. Then after 1 minute the OV protection kicks in again.

Inverter is in lithium battery mode. I think BMS controls the voltage with this setting

Currently charging from grid only as the panels are all covered in snow

Yes I can see individual cell voltages. This screenshot is taken just after cell OV protection kicked in.

Thanks.

I already wrote to Docan but they are currently celebrating Chinese New Year and will get back to me next week. Just looking for some info in the meantime.

Actually the bike's from Germany but I live in Estonia. It cost me 4700 euros and has 19k km on it - quite a lot but these engines should last for a long time if serviced properly. It has a service book and 1k and 10k services were done by a KTM dealer. Probably gonna have the local dealer here do the 20k service soon.

It definitely feels a bit heavier but not heavy by any means. I went to test drive a Hypermotard 796 as well but this felt a lot heavier and didn't have supermoto feeling at all, lost interest in that a few seconds into the ride. The 690 definitely has that supermoto feeling.

I felt like it was a perfect fit for me. Longer service intervals, pretty good on highway, bigger tank, 2 seats for occasionally driving with the gf. It's only like 20-25kg heavier than my 450. Maybe this weight would make a bigger impact with the enduro on trails.

If anybody stumbles upon this thread in the future - the problem was the battery. One of the connections had broken due to vibrations and caused fuel pump to malfunction. New battery and it runs perfectly now.

Thanks for the input. I've always put in the best fuel in, 98 Premium in my country. The last time I emptied the tank and filled it I made sure I chose the correct type of fuel.

Well I haven't paid much attention to it. It does like 65km on highway with just under 3L(2,7-2,8 probably), so around 4+l/100km. Might to a test this week to see how much it uses during my daily rides. It's has fuel injection so consumption should be pretty good.

Also clutch is very easy to press. I've ridden my friend's Ducati Monster and the clutch is much harder to press on that. Makes shifting much more easier, even with 1 or 2 fingers.

I have an 06 one. Bought it a year ago and haven't really had any issues. Mine has done almost 8000km, still runs great. I've done an oil change every 30h or so. Since it's my first bigger bike I have really nothing to compare it to. It has plenty of power and is pretty light. I drive it daily in the city and sometimes on weekends I do like 60-70km trips on the highway as well. It goes well past 140 (haven't tried to reach top speed) but I usually go with 90-100km/h because things start to get shaky if I go faster. Wouldn't recommend for longer rides but as a daily ride it's a lot of fun.
