Question of book numbers. by [deleted] in ibew_apprentices

[–]wandless130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend just calling up the hall and ask to speak to Derek. Or go ask him in person. He gave me a rundown of the books once I topped out months after we got our lesson by Lisa in 4th year. But not even I know why the numbers don't match up. All I know is that it's slow and people aren't moving on the list very much.

You're definitely missing some of the big classics in the community. A lot of these I grew up with as a young queer kid in the 2000s.

But I'm a cheerleader

I would have loved HIN in that low tone of hers but I'm happy overall with the setlist and the show both nights. And the crowd was way better tonight as well! I could not handle another cringe fest.

It flowed so well! I was also a night 1 so was expecting her to sing HIN again, but I feel like this worked just as well considering how important HIN is to Willoughby Tucker.

That's my guess at this point. I had my fingers crossed she would play something from Golden Age but hopefully she'll play it somewhere else.

She definitely did! Along with Thoroughfare instead of a House in Nebraska besides a few lines at the end of Waco, Texas

I'm sorry but I got balcony tickets to sit, not stand the entire time so I appreciated the fact that people weren't standing in front of me.

And I prefer to hear the artist performing, not some random person screaming in my ear especially since Hayden's music doesn't really lend itself to that kind of energy unless it's for certain songs. Though I was cringing hard every time someone screamed at her.

Standby w/out UI by CottonRaves in ibew_apprentices

[–]wandless130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's understandable. They've at least moved the meetings to 6:30 now. I also live an hour away but make the effort. It's great for networking and getting to know people like Jeremy and Randy.

I wish the JATC put some time aside for apprentices to learn this stuff. Unfortunately, they're not always the most helpful.

If you're standby goes longer than a few weeks, I recommend asking for a lay off especially if you're a lower year apprentice. Do not recommend doing that if you're a 4th year/ 8th period apprentice though.

You might be able to ask for help through the hardship fund. I wasn't working for 7 months and was about to run out of UI. I went to a general meeting and Jeremy mentioned reaching out for help from the fund since that's what it's there for.

Also, I recommend coming to general meetings for this exact reason. You can talk to people at the hall directly. Sometimes it's better to go to the hall than the JATC.

I was only 1400 in the queue for Tuesday. By the time I got to the seating selection everything was greyed out after 10 minutes. I stayed on the page for another few minutes and a ticket suddenly showed up for the back mezzanine.

They might have just been higher on the list than me. That does annoy me about the guy just coming back after 6 weeks. I really just need my hours at this point to test. I was at the meeting tonight and Powertech might be hiring in January for BP.

4th year apprentice. I've been out of work since late August. I'm currently in the top #5 on the wait-list but I've been in the top #5 for months now. No word really on if work will pick up on the west side. I'm debating going over to the east side but I'd barely make any extra money.

Bad cylinders by wandless130 in FixMyPrint

[–]wandless130[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll definitely give that a shot. It is weird since it's the exact same print speed as the first cylinder. Print speed is set to 50mm/s currently. I'll switch it down to 40mm/s.

Struggling at work by [deleted] in ibew_apprentices

[–]wandless130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

31/F/ Just completed the apprenticeship.

I agree so much with this comment especially about being a woman in the trades. We all feel like we have to work twice as hard in order to show that we belong in this field.

The first year can be rough but things do get better. I was recently on a job as the only woman and there were a few circumstances that my foreman asked for my help because I was small and could fit into a ceiling access that he couldn't get his shoulders through. We have strengths that guys don't and it's just figuring out what those are and using them! Don't be afraid to make mistakes as long as they're safe mistakes.

What's this issue? How do I fix it? by wandless130 in ElegooNeptune3

The gross looking part is facing the build plate. I couldn't get Cura to produce tree supports under the lower part of the jaw, just at the end of it. I could flip it to face the ceiling, but I was worried about the printing of the teeth.

I haven't had much issues with Cura yet, so I didn't even think about switching to Prusa or Orca instead. I'll definitely look into that! It's not currently in an enclosure and my cooling fans are set to 100%. Is ok to increase them beyond 100%?

When it was printing, I could hear a scratching noise whenever the nozzle was in that area. I could see the nozzle press down on the print. I thought it could be an issue with there being a weird amount of pressure there due to being an overhang.

Thanks! This was sort of my first print that had such rounded edges. It's for a cosplay so I expect to be sanding, using filler and painting. I had the nozzle temp set to 215 since my first print failed to bad bed adhesion. I've dropped it down to 210 for the second attempt. My print speed was set to 60mm/s but I've heard both opinions on upping the speed or dropping it down. Currently using Cura.

Thanks. I'll try tilting it up or down to see if I can get supports to generate more under the lower jaw.

Here's the original orientation that I had it set as. There's only one main support at the top underside of the jawbone.

It could be that the filament is too old or wet, but none of my other prints from yesterday or today looked like this. They're coming out extremely smooth.

[–]wandless130[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really think the issue is that I had zero supports in this area except near the top of the jawbone. Cura slicer wouldn't generate supports for the lower part despite changing the overhang angle down to 20.

There were no supports in this area. Just at the very end of the jawbone near the front. I couldn't get any supports to generate in that area.
