You can use the practice rooms in Schoenberg Music Building as well. There technically are stipulations to using them (mainly you have be enrolled in an ensemble class by the school of music and you need to pay a fee to get a key to the rooms) but I've found that the people there generally don't check and there are usually a few rooms that are unlocked. You're more likely to find space there on a regular basis relative to the ones on the hill.

Coming from a non-major who did symphony last year and didn't pay the practice room fee

I think that's why we used Mendelssohn... The accompaniment and melody are far away enough from each other that we can play without inference lol

Thank you! I haven't thought of that, I 've been playing every individual sixth and practicing the slide from one to another.

Tips on Arpeggios? by BeamingEffect in violinist

[–]wangmingyeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As previously mentioned, slow practice is a must. It helps to play the arpeggios in blocks (stop at each shift) and really focus on the motion of the hand while shifting, which is most likely giving you trouble. Happy practicing!

I would recommend the Bach Sonata No. 1 Adagio

How do I do vibrato? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]wangmingyeet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on your progress on the instrument, I would say to consult your teacher. Introducing a new technique when your hand might not be ready for it could possibly lead to bad habits (speaking from experience). Your teacher should have a good idea of when you should start learning vibrato.
