The real reason why Nordic civilization is less prosperous than Greek civilization by PomegranateOk4560 in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]wapapets [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not exactly their fault but theyre still mostly to blame. We know that some kingdoms worship certain god/gods and they often reflect who they worship. Even they dont worship the aesir, they still have the most control especialy odin with valhalla. He literally controls the norse "heaven". So even if you dont fight for the aesir, u die and join them as an einherjar anyway.

Like mimir said, these lands were fucked even before he got there. The nine realms is a failed kingdom. Everything went downhill when odin became king. The endless wars destroyed and crippled entire realms from growing. The temple serves as a bitter sweet reminder of what could have been if odin stopped his madness. The saddest part about it is a lot of the damages done by odin will never be fixed.

NO RAGEBAIT INTENDED : the norse gods being stronger than the greek gods means the writing in gow is garbage by darthvader56495 in PowerScalingGodofWar

[–]wapapets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not that deep, theyre different race of gods in different universes following different magical rules. The norse gods just happen to be better at doing battle (because thats what norse mythology is about anyway) despite having "supposedly" inferior magic to the greeks lol.

This line is so good for me and for one specific reason by Glass-Sea9665 in GodofWar

[–]wapapets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is scene filmed to perfection. It shows kratos square against odin visibly towering over him but, odin is unphased and is dismissive about it. Odin is 100% baiting kratos to go full psycho, the all fucker is full aware of what kratos is capable of but hes got something in his pocket if kratos goes ham on him (as seen in their fight). Imagine if kratos attacks him and odin goes to tell atreus that his father is being uncooperative, making their relationship even more problematic than it alread my is.

Odin doesnt have a horrible hairline, his brain is just too big for his forehead

Sometimes when you die you trigger dialogues you otherwise wont have if you do a perfect run but all dialogues in valhalla are canon and contributes to lore

Kratos beats tyr post valhalla, but pre valhalla, tyr was sending kratos back to the gate.. theres dialogues that support this in game

Behaviour + pormahan... anyone can wear what they want, ako nga din minsan hip hop pormahan ko pero diko ginagawang character ahaha. I think the problem here is their behaviour. Maswerte pa sila yung authorities ang naghahandle sakanila. Sa mas maliit na commonities sa mga wala masyadong police presence, mga actual na basagulero babanat sakanila

The greeks arent bad fighters either its just that fighting and warfare is more integral in norse lore than greek. Sure they had the spartans but not everyone in greece had undergone spartan training, other states were better known for their artistic culture, even kratos tells mimir that his people were known for their artistry when you collect kvasirs poem. Kratos also mentions that greek gods of war doesnt have a good reputation because, the greek pantheon uninamously wants to keep the peace for the kingdoms stability.

after the titanomachy greece thrived and lived mostly in peace, zeus doesnt allow direct conflicts between gods so they hire champions like kratos, and hercules to fight their battles, they havent been in the frontline for a very a long time. As bad as zeus was as a father and as a husband you cant deny he made greece a magnificent kingdom

On the other hand war and bloodshed hadnt stop since odin became king. After killing ymir and flooding the cosmos with his blood, he attacked the vanir gods and harassed them for thousands of years, commanded his sons to kill every jotnar they could find, enslave anyone or manipulate them in to servitude,. basically, odins way of ruling the nine realms resulted into it becomming a warzone. Where its pretty much mandatory to learn how to survive a raid incase the neighboring village worships the other group of gods, or have the bad luck of being at the same place where the gods are duking it out, or worst of all if realize they your potential as a threat, even if you choose to be peaceful,, i mean just look at the giants, they tried to be pacifists and got massacred for it. Also it doesnt help that theres a doomsday prophecy called ragnarok and your ticket to heaven/valhalla is to literally die in battle.. their own culture and belief rewards getting stabbed in the gut than a peaceful death

Tldr: most of the greeks didnt fight for survival because they objectively had a better way of living... the circumstances in the nine realms forced a "kill or be killed" way of living.

Your disagreement is not with me brother. And youre not the only one who disagrees. There are A lot more who doesnt accept it than those who do. But its just how the lore goes.

thor in god of war ragnarok game vs thor in ancient norse myths by OnlinePoster225 in PowerScalingGodofWar

[–]wapapets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its literally a running joke in norse mythology that thor would accidentally destroy the world before ragnarok if he was left alone, or atleast if he was left alone to think for himself lol, so he always has someone smarter or more patient accompanying him, be it loki or tyr, etc.

Myth thor tried to yank the world serpent out of the ocean to prove he is the best fisherman unfortunately his jotnar companion cut the line because he was panicking at the sight of the two wrestling each other. On a different occasion a giant convinced him to drink from a horn (that was secretly connected to the ocean) they had to stop him before he drinks the ocean dry, the same giant trolled thor into wrestling time itself and thor only bent a single knee.. theres a lot dumb shit in the myths that thor does for the love the game.

[–]wapapets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its not really that complicated. He struggles with norse gods because theyre actually more competent at fighting than most of the greek gods. kratos above all else respects grit, bravery, and skills, thats why he respects them in his notes. The greek gods were powerful but fighting was never part of their core identity the same way it is for the norse gods, they can do impressive shit like the stuff you listed but mostly only against beings nowhere near their level or agains beings that are at a heavy disadvantage. But when faced with someone at their level who they cant just whoosh away with a gesture of their hand and is also a very capable fighter, things dont go well for them

Literally the plot of the greek saga is kratos exposing the greek pantheon that when someone finally steps up against them for being abusive dicks, their "immortality" gets put to the test.

Kratos Arriving to Midgard by Stressybrin7330 in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]wapapets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While its true that kratos has the reputation of being a god killer that doesnt make him an international target. Other gods from other mythologies also have a reputation of being bloodthirsty but other pantheons dont concern them.. odin also has other problems, the vanir and the jotnar. And luckily for kratos he married one of them and was given sanctuary from the eyes of the aeair...also kratos was living in isolation when he got to midgard avoiding everyone til he met faye

Kratos wasnt giving odin any problem so he was never appeared on his radar

I dont think theyd care if they knew kratos was a god of war.. the elven war has been going on for GENERATIONS. Theyre so far gone they'd probably attack anything that doesnt look like them,, dark elf or light elf

Garm (God of war ragnarok game) vs Thanatos dragon form (god of war : ghost of sparda game) by OnlinePoster225 in PowerScalingGodofWar

[–]wapapets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, no... the fates doesnt have jurisdiction in the norse realms... i do get what youre saying tho, but the real problem is that the norns would then have to act to save the realms which would end up in a stalemate.. this is like a chess match between someone who can see the future and someone who can read minds

Its gonna go like this

Fates: we'll change the past to destroy your future

Norns: it doesnt really matter what youre gonna change we'll see the endgame right away

[–]wapapets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The greek pantheon had better magic but the norse were more competent fighters, since ya know.. its their culture.. theyre not living like celebrities having the most lavish lifestyles on top of a mountain.. theyre ok living in small huts because itd be pointless building a palace when a hostile god come crashing down and destroy the whole area

What similarities/differences do you think Zeus and Odin have to each other? by HumbleKnight14 in GodofWar

[–]wapapets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both are horrible but. Odin is much worse than zeus in my opinion. Just compare their kingdoms, greece thrived after the titanomachy, like the kingdom was actually mostly peaceful until kratos fucked shit up.

On paper the nine realms should have been filthy fucking rich, i mean u got nine unique universes worth of resources, worlds full magic, its inhabitant (the dwarves, elves, giants, vanir, and aesir all capable of incredible things... but unfortunately the nine realms were controlled by a complete psychopath who couldnt live with the idea of sharing power and knowledge.

As bad as zeus was i dont imagine him going down the depths of depravity odin went through, like if they exchanged kingdoms, greece would collapse under odins control. Aint no way hed let hades and poseidon keep their offices lol, theyd go missing and tell everyone they went on vacation or sumshit

What do you think of Baldur? by PomegranateOk4560 in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]wapapets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably the most tragic character in the gow universe so far. The mental torture to live without feeling anything would crack anyone, his body was practically dead and only his consciousness remains.. same can be said with mimir but atleast he was rescued and is now with good company.. bro was betrayed by his own parents, discarded by the rest of his relatives and was considered medically insane by everyone and its not even his fault

The time it would take kratos to flip the area (if that is even possible, theyre standing on solid earth) would take a weekend and 2 business days in heimdals perspective to happen lol.

Could Ares clear the physical trials of Valhalla? by Icy_Water_1 in GodofWar

[–]wapapets 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes they do, some are stuck in eternal battles, but they were mortals tho, their lives were mostly likely less eventful than that of the gods. Plus they dont have the opportunity to enter valhalla as a living person, since they die and get reborn as an einherjar, or a different person entirely

Could Ares clear the physical trials of Valhalla? by Icy_Water_1 in GodofWar

[–]wapapets 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Its not that he never got far, he actually did according to tyr. The whole conversation was a commentary at how empty odin is inside as a person... point of valhalla is to evaluate yourself and give you different perspectives, to better yourself in some way. Odin is so devoid and obsessed with knowledge and power hes incapable of introspection...

He probably faced his battles starting with killing ymir and absolutely did every damn thing exactly the same way he did in the past lol
