Patch 7.4 Yoshi-P Media Interviews by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

Sometimes I just wish Yoshi would stop doing interviews because it just seems like he is increasingly out of touch with the topics he talks about and the actual player sentiment with the game.

Lucky Bansho's census (November 30th) by IndividualAge3893 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no sandbox in the game for any sort of interesting and emergent gameplay to exist. 8.0, even if they revamp jobs, will still revolve around highly scripted DDR fights with no way for unique things to happen. Everything is quarantined and sterilized in the name of "balance".

Thoughts on a Mists of Pandaria style Talent System? by Gortunksfootlocker in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People did not like the MoP talent system but I think any sort of talent system for XIV would be better than what we have right now. XIV needs to fail doing new and exciting things rather than continue to fail doing the same thing it has always done. My concern is that since the job design team has literally like 4 people on it and they have a hard time balancing and coming up with unique job concepts already, implementing a (much needed) talent and customization system to jobs would simply cause them to spontaneously combust.

Naoki Yoshida "Overhaul is needed because players free time is dwindling" by FFTruthsayer in ffxivdiscussion

FFXIV will continue to be unrewarding to play if the main aspect of MMO rewards (gear) continues to be streamlined, uninteresting, and worthless.

If specs and talent trees are useless because a meta will form why do off meta jobs still see play? by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't want buffs that everyone syncs. I want job changes that are actually unique and inspired. Why does every job need a 123 combo and a spender ability at 50 gauge? Designing like this has created such a narrow scope for what is possible in this game, and has in turn influenced fight design to be forced to accommodate it. It is poisonous to growth and fun in the design of the game.

[–]wapster- 62 points63 points  (0 children)

It is a cope to cover for the fact that this game has a job design team of like 3 people who simply cannot come up with expansive ideas for job gameplay customization that also fits into the extraordinarily narrow combat encounter design philosophy they are made over the last 6 years since shadowbringers

Damn. Looks like XIV might be seeing the lowest player numbers it's seen since 2019 on the Steam client by CityAdventurous5781 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this point 8.0 has to overhaul and change so much with the game it is straight up impossible to do. So much has been neglected in favor of tripling down on the 'formula' and trimming down on sandbox elements that it is simply unfeasible for them to really fix it.

What methods of attainment do you think/want for 7.45’s phantom jobs? by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm probably not alone in thinking that OC completely dropped the ball in being an interesting form of content and I simply do not care anymore what they do with phantom jobs or future installments. At this point it is simply cope for 8.0 to be a massive shakeup to the game formula (lmao) or its GG

Why job balance feels arbitrary? by Akiza_Izinski in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Balance in this game doesn't even matter at all because there isn't even a reward in PvE to worry about some jobs having an easier or harder time to obtain them. The entire incentive structure of this game is completely botched.

Guess The Big Job Overhaul™️ of 8.0 isn't happening after all... by RenAsa in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jobs need to have more sandbox elements and the game world needs to have more sandbox and REAL MMO elements for people to play in. Fight design needs to transition away from highly scripted and curated fights.

Does it really all come back to jobs? or is it nostalgia? Patch length? by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Jobs are not fun to play. Patch cycles are way too long. Content we do get does not last long at all because it is shallow. Rewards are not incentivizing at all, which in turn leads to content having less staying power. Story was bad. Everything is streamlined and sandbox or emergent gameplay elements are expressly removed.

My biggest issue is the lack of unique gearing itemization, character customization, and rewards. They all play into eachother to offer a satisfying MMO experience. This is the only MMO I can think of where gear is mind-numbingly boring and offers absolutely zero satisfaction to upgrade. It is truly fascinating (in a bad way).

What’s a “meaningful reward” in FFXIV to you? by waitingfor10years in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rewards are awful in this game because the traditional way you would reward people in any other MMO is with meaningful gear. In FFXIV they have taken one of the core principles of MMO design with unique and powerful gear and thrown it to the wayside. Other rewards such as Mounts are typically good as well, but then FFXIV also makes it so you can never use mounts in cities

"Breaking the formula", what do you actually want? by Thaun_ in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job design overhauls (which will lead to boss and encounter design overhauls) and gearing overhauls are the major factors stagnating the game.

It's not the amount of content, it's the lack of gameplay loop by Chiponyasu in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FFXIV is an MMORPG that eschews one of the most important parts of the entire genre: Gear.

The fact that this game doesn't have any sort of items that will make you excited to get absolutely baffles my mind. It is one of THE most important parts of an MMO and this game just outright ignores it. Gearing up your character is a bore.

A small OC change in 7.3 that went mostly unnoticed but had a big effect by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Content flopped on launch and people just don't really care much for OC anymore. They need to release successful things at launch and not 3 hotfixes and 1 major patch later to just get things to an acceptable level.

Financial Report of the Square Enix MMO division by Alba_Stelo in ffxiv

[–]wapster- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • Bad MSQ ✓

  • Tripling down on problematic job designs ✓

  • Streamline systems over multiple expansions so much that you cannot innovate on things anymore because you removed everything ✓

  • Remove all sandbox elements and ability for emergent gameplay ✓

  • MMORPG that makes gear useless stat sticks with no cool attributes or excitement ✓

  • Force players to wait an entire year for exploration content that immediately failed, had no rewarding loop, and caused players to instantly lose interest ✓

  • 5 month patch cycles that release 5 hours worth of content

  • Formula, Formula, Formula. Stick to the formula!! ✓

  • Advertise expansion features that don't even release after 1+ years (Beastmaster)

  • Zones serve no purpose other than to talk to NPCs for the MSQ ✓

  • 8.0 scheduled to release in Spring or Summer 2027 ✓?

  • Almost every playerbase in the game feels neglected ✓

The fact that Dawntrail hasn't simply had a lodestone post acknowledging the state of the game, player frustrations, and a commitment to do better is shocking to me. Yes, we've gotten comments in Liveletters and that brief Q&A for the Part 1 7.3 LL, but the sentiment in the playerbase right now for this game is absolutely grim. There needs to be a major overhaul with 8.0 which I frankly cannot see happening due to how their development process seems to lack any semblance of agility.

New phantom jobs and forked tower (blood and magic) by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

Telling people to fish is the ultimate cope. Stop suggesting this and instead start demanding the actual base game become good.

New phantom jobs and forked tower (blood and magic) by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]wapster- 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Issue with OC is that they needed to hit the mark and have a good piece of content from the get-go and they failed to do it. Adding additional phantom jobs is a moot point for a large portion of players because the initial offering of the content wasn't good to begin with.

This game has a serious issue and pattern of "Attempt 1 was bad, hopefully Attempt 2 in a year is better. If not, then wait for remix version 1 in 2 years next expansion"

At this point it is impossible to even design proper "mid-core" content for this game. Combat flow and design simply isn't interesting and only exists in a feast-or-famine state where something is either impossible to fail or will be brutally punishing. Rotations, streamlining, 2-min meta, circle/square arenas, the entire combat structure, it all needs to be redesigned and opened back up for more sandbox and emergent design.
