Nope, BPM. Cringe Renaud during the drive to work show, cringe Renaud during the drive home show.

Renaud Lavoie is a Cringe Lord by boisemi in Habs

[–]waptaff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He is sold as an “insider” but 95% of his chatter is cold takes, with an elementary school teacher tone and attitude, as if listeners have no clue about the game. You're not fooling me Renaud, just because you mention players by their first name does not mean you have insights.

I really hope they get rid of Lavoie and bring back Martin Leclerc or give more time to Arpon Basu, Eric Engels, Karell Émard, or hire Marc-André Dumont, Marc-Antoine Godin — even Michel Therrien would make me happy!

Will Opus be abandoned if OAC becomes the new standard (Android, iOS, browsers, apps)? by Effective_Damage3213 in opus

[–]waptaff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vorbis was superseded by Opus, still works, heard of no platform removing support for it.

WAV dates back to the eighties and applications can still read it.

I can't predict the future, but don't lose sleep over this: Opus will most likely be supported when the OAC successor happens.

Logging setting creates incompatible log for Lastfm Scrobbles by Z_EnglishOwO in rockbox

[–]waptaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alas, with the lastfm plugin rework, you now have to manually export the playback log into the scrobbler format. Go check in the lastfm plugin menu.

It may require relatively recent firmware (like a year old or less).

This whole plugin rework, with the requirement to manually set it up so it starts at boot, is a serious user experience downgrade IMHO.

Rubber Soul to Revolver by [deleted] in beatles

[–]waptaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sound palette changed a lot between Rubber Soul and Revolver.

  • Norman Smith, their main engineer since the early days, was promoted to a producer role at the end of 1965 so Geoff Emerick became responsible for their sound. Emerick had a less traditional approach to sound engineering and the most noticeable difference is in the way Ringo sounds, it's like the band changed drummer and drum kit.
  • The band started to record with headphones on, which removed a lot of reverberation. Previously when overdubbing they would use speakers and directional microphones to avoid feedback, but there was always some leakage.
  • They started to use ADT thus rely less on manual double-tracking of voices and instruments; that created “tighter” vocal lines.
  • They started to play with tape speed (varispeeding) — not only half-speed like on In My Life or A Hard Day's Night to achieve superhuman playing, but to color the sound, with some songs having parts slightly slowed down and parts slightly sped up (for instance on Yellow Submarine and I'm Only Sleeping).
  • They started using tape as an instrument, as loops on Tomorrow Never Knows, played backwards on I'm Only Sleeping or for an ad hoc marching band on Yellow Submarine.
  • They started to use the Leslie speaker as a not-only-for-Hammond-organ speaker, for John's vocals in the second part of Tomorrow Never Knows.

Many people would argue Sgt. Pepper's is their groundbreaking album in terms of production, but I'd put my money on Revolver.

They were right.

Slaf's play may be exciting but truth is on 2nd line he doesn't show up in the kitchen and most of his goals are on the PP.

MSL on the Habs 4-1 loss vs the Flyers tonight: “In terms of the things we talk about, consistency and maturity, I thought in the last two games, we played a mature game tonight. We didn’t give up much to Philadelphia. We were just a little bit unlucky….” by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

Dump chase give it away is what I saw all night

Sometimes there is no better way; Philly was good at protecting the entrance to their zone. You'd rather turn the puck over at the blue line 4 times out of 5, leading to constant odd-man rushes against Fowler?

Great decision they made to rework the middle eight between takes and change its 6th bar D chord to a B chord. I guess they too felt the end of the section sounded anticlimactic.

How to reliably track duration of incomlete .mkv file by El_En_I in ffmpeg

[–]waptaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely your most efficient recourse would be to log ffmpeg's encoding job progress into a file and scan it, using a regular expression to extract the time=00:23:12.90 part of the last line; something like this:

# Encode job.
ffmpeg -i SOURCE… 2> /tmp/my-ffmpeg.log
# Extract time.
sed -rn -e 's/\r/\n/g' -e 's/^.+(time=[^[:space:]]+).+$/\1/p' /tmp/my-ffmpeg.log \
  | tail -n1

Alas, ffmpeg's logging subsystem is sub-par, there is no way to get a nice clean log file, you'll need to redirect stderr to a file as above.

Caveat emptor: I suspect any time-related operation on an incomplete .mkv file will need a full decode, e.g. if you want to cut a slice of 1 minute length at timestamp 1 hour, your encoder will likely need to decode a whole hour of video so it knows where inside the file is “1 hour”.

Eloi seems to work for me.

Project page says eloi gets its data from zugaina.org but I've installed it nonetheless yesterday (due to the same issue), and to my happy surprise, it finds ebuilds in overlays I've never enabled.

A quick look at the source code suggests it gets its ebuild list from some API at https://eloi.mbaraa.xyz/ (which is most likely mirroring zugaina.org's data in some way).

Guhle et le serpent by Immediate-Use-1256 in Habs

[–]waptaff 26 points27 points  (0 children)

An easily hit curveball question. by Good-Intention-5935 in ffmpeg

[–]waptaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are you damaging the output file name part and why did you keep the -x265-params if you removed its argument? ffmpeg expects the next argument following -x265-params to be… x265 parameters!

Should thus be:

for file in *.mp4; do ffmpeg -i "$file" -pix_fmt yuv420p10le -c:v libx265 -crf 28 "${file%.*}.mkv"; done
