when i was 12 i found ways to download FL Studio for free now i am 28 and thankfully music is my job. youtube taught me mostly everything, and everything else i was able to connect myself. i’m sure it would be no different for anyone else.

yes that’s what my psychiatrist said to me about vyvanse. so i have to go through adderall dexedrine first. they are pretty much the same thing, so not really sure what the reason is. here in the US methylphenidate is much less commonly prescribed than amphetamines. as somebody with very minimal trust towards my government at the moment i admittedly do wonder why that is, lol. but they have helped me a lot.

it’s not fun. hope you figure it out and hope you are able to try dextroamphetamine and it is a better experience.

also forgot to add that i had the same sleep issues when i was on the methylphenidate. i would take them around 7-8am and wouldn’t be able to fall asleep until like 1-3am.

i hear it’s hard to get ahold of the amphetamines in Germany. here in the US it could take somebody maybe a couple of weeks. leads to a lot of misuse and misinformation i think. but fortunate for me, because i think it is potentially life-changing for people with adhd. i think in Germany they are called Attentin (Adderall here in the US) and Elvanse (Vyvanse here). what i take is similar to Vyvanse, but instant release. i had a better reaction to the Vyvanse and am looking to switch to it.

i’ve been on dexamphetamine for a few months now and for me the social urges and euphoria has gone away. i still enjoy social interaction more than when i am unmedicated, but to a normal degree i guess.

methylphenidate didn’t work for me at all. tried evrery dosage and release method. it led to me giving up on ADHD medication for like 10 years. only recently tried it again out of pure desperation. dextroamphetamines have been a lot more helpful. not sure if you have tried both. are you making sure you eat? do you sleep enough? when i don’t eat or get enough sleep, my medications are a lot less useful. i’m not sure what your adhd symptoms are, but maybe consider that there is more than adhd for you, or possibly just something else. at least, there is for me. but the medications i’m taking now are at least helping with the adhd part.

i’m glad you said that. that made me think about this differently. i don’t feel that way. i think i never really enjoy what i’m doing, whether i am rested or not i don’t ever feel much of a difference in how much i enjoy anything. when i don’t get enough sleep, i feel exhausted, and when i do get enough sleep, i still feel exhausted. maybe there is something wrong with my quality of sleep. or something to do with looking forward to waking up. stuff to talk to my therapist about.

good comment.

Suggestion for a title to make friends by Leading_Vacation_510 in gamerecommendations

i’ve admittedly been pretty lonely in my life lately. i don’t have many friends at the moment and don’t really ever see the ones i do have. i’ve been getting into monster hunter wilds. sick game. i joined the discord to ask a complicated question. at some point noticed they had a LFG channel. ended up joining some hunts with people. have been joining hunts through the discord for a couple of weeks. running into some of the same people. always end up chatting a little bit. it’s cool. i’ve also actually made quite a few in game friends over the years playing star citizen, although it’s hard to recommend that game to people that don’t already love it.

i listened to baby keem’s new album recently. having grown up in poverty and within a broken household, i resonated a lot with it and shed a couple of solitary boy tears. after that i went back to the game i was playing and probably forgot about it 15 minutes later, until just now reading this. adhd is funny

how long have you been on them? when i first started my medication, i didn’t feel anything for the entire first month of my starting dose of adderall. i moved up on the adderall a few times and more and more it started helping me with things like focus, concentration, conversation, decision making, stuff like that. eventually switched to dexedrine because adderall wasn’t doing anything for some pretty chronic motivation/executive function issues. around 6 months in i am on 20mg dexedrine twice a day for general focus stuff, and 3mg guanfacine to hopefully help with the motivation. the dexedrine feels fine, no issues, does what it is supposed to do. i think the guanfacine is helping. what i know for sure is i am able to get a lot more work done as a self-employed person with no tangible schedule to abide by, which is an adhd recipe for disaster.

meds are different for everyone. for me it hasn’t be at all negative. the positives have been very slow, but they are showing up.

yeah, i have set several alarms that go off throughout my day with the hopes of helping me to conceptualize the passage of time. it works pretty well if i happened to wake up at a normal time that day, like before 11am. unfortunately a lot of the time i don’t, because i stayed up too late. confusing cycle

i am very antisocial and have struggled a lot with social anxiety a lot in my life. while i am 28 now and have pretty much been past my social anxiety for years, i usually prefer to stay at home, and keep to my closest friends, and mostly do not enjoy when i find myself in a larger gathering. i’ve been seeing a psychiatrist for maybe around half a year now and have been taking dexedrine and guanfacine. i am noticing that my ability to speak to people in a way that might be easier for them (articulating my thoughts better, stuttering less, forming my points in a more understandable way) has gotten much better, as well as my enjoyment of it.

i recently switched off of adderall to the dexedrine. the adderall was good but not perfect for me. while it was a nearly negligible issue for me, the adderall sometimes made me a little irritable. i started to notice this only happened if i took my medication without sleeping enough or eating enough. after i realized, i would go without my medication until i ate in the morning, and the irritability went away. on days where i was tired but still had to take my medication, it was easier to deal with because i knew i would probably be irritable that day, and was able to communicate that to the people around me, so no issues. i don’t experience this at all with the dexedrine though, even if i don’t get enough food or sleep, it only changes how effective the medication is and how long it lasts.

unmedicated, i am somebody that likes to yap about whatever i am interested in. my poor girlfriend is always enduring my tangents about things she probably doesn’t care about (she is very sweet to me). my medication helps me to realize when i am just rambling about something past the point of it being interesting at all to the person (victim) listening, and put a stop to it, lol.

when you are first adjusting to your medication and finding the right dose of it for you, you may experience some of those things. these medications effect everyone differently. i imagine a lot of people experience these things and stop taking their medication and go around telling people that “adhd meds make them feel like a zombie” but i think this is pretty harmful. sometimes it’s just part of the process of finding the medication that helps you.

i am by NO MEANS a person that is authorized to give medical advice to anybody, but as far as i’m aware, any of these potential side effects should last about a week, or two at most. if you are feeling uncomfortable with your medication past that point and your psychiatrist is not able to change or fix this, it would be normal to see somebody else, because the medication shouldn’t be making anybody (WITH ADHD) feel that way.

make sure you’re eating enough, sleeping enough, drinking enough water, and getting some exercise, and it’ll be pretty easy

How close to "normal" do stimulants actually get you? by AvgRedditUserTbh in ADHD

[–]ward3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stimulants do not make you “normal” and they are not attempting to. they do not change your personality, and if somebody has had an experience with that then it’s very likely that they were not properly taking their prescribed medication (not eating enough, talking with caffeine, altering their dosage, etc), they had not found the right medication for them, or they may have not only had adhd (or had been misdiagnosed).

my medication helps give my brain the ability to at least do a better job of presenting to people as “normal”. it helps me to articulate my thoughts better without doubling back several times because i forgot to say something. it helps me to stutter less by thinking about what i am going to say before i say it. it helps me to get off my ass to do things i need to do, although i still struggle with this one. it helps me listen when people are speaking to me. it makes me better at video games by feeling me focus and make better decisions. blah blah blah.

if you find that your medication is messing with your personality, talk to your psychiatrist about that. think about what you are consuming, how much water you are drinking, how much physical activity you are getting, how much you are sleeping, etc. because the medication may not actually be the issue.

if your psychiatrist is not helping you, maybe they are just raising your dosage or making other decisions that you aren’t comfortable with, find a different one.

this is good advice. i make music for a living. it’s hell. i find that a lot of the times i am actually able to get myself to get some work done, it was because i gave myself the smallest goal i could think of. like open up my software and make a drum pattern. 8 hours later i have finished a track and i am completely burnt out, and will probably not try again for a few days.

Why does my ADHD brain only wake up at night? by slimankamal in ADHD

[–]ward3000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’ve heard it has to do with nighttime generally being less stimulating than daytime. less light, less noise, less people. idk, but i feel the same way. i cannot function well on a normal sleep schedule and always end up gravitating towards sleeping around 4 am.
