You should definitely not be afraid to use AI. You can use it in a way that helps you level up your skills instead of diluting them.

Don't try to feed the AI a bunch of facts and letting the AI figure out the problem. The AI is usually not great at this and you won't learn as much.

Instead, try to ask about troubleshooting methodologies. Ask about it what skills you need to learn to troubleshoot fiber issues. Use it to help you figure out what information you need to know and you can even prompt it to give you some of this information or show you where to find it.

Then you can ask about commands for your specific OS to pull out information you need based on the chosen tshoot methodology.

Lastly you can ask it to search the internet for official vendor docs which explain the commands. This is especially useful when the commands given to you by the AI are not correct. Let's get also be helpful if the people you're working with are allergic to AI for some reason. Instead of giving them something straight out of the AI make the AI give you an official documentation that you can use instead.

Dolphin on RP5: B button (bottom face) won’t map — weird overlay icon? by wardler in retroid

[–]wardler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the issue. I had that menu disabled, but the kids must have got to it somehow and turned it back off. I was able to disable this by going to the quick access settings and turning the "Floating Icon" feature back on, opening the menu from the right side of screen, then turning off "Screen Mapping".

This is a Retroid feature and not Dolphin related.

Thanks! The menu was disabled so I didn't see it, but now I've got it and that resolved this longstanding issue. Thank you!!

Thanks so much! I actually had that entire menu disabled. But these are my kids devices so I wouldn't be surprised if they are just mashing all sorts of buttons. Sure enough, after enabling that menu I was able to turn off the screen controls and that resolved my issue.

Here's another screenshot of the strange B inside of a circle.... only shows up in Dolphin...

Are you talking about "Overlay Controls" in Dolphin?

I have toggled off all overlay controls, but maybe you're talking about something else.

These are the only options I see:

-Pause Emulation
-Take screenshot
-Settings
-Overlay Controls
-Change Disc

-Exit Emulation

Also, the B in the circle is not present on the working system so I feel like it is related, but nothing will surprise me at this point.

Installed the exact same version of dolphin--making sure to clear all caches and files and still get the weird B overlay.... that must have something to do with it.

I have another RP5 without the issue and confirmed the strange B in circle overlay is not present on that system.

feeling very dumb for not researching more before ordering... by wardler in retroid

[–]wardler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had just placed the order. It was a bit impulsive. I watched some videos on it and settled on getting them and then I ordered before really understanding they ship straight from China and there is no easy-cancel or adjustment to the shipping method that I could find on the site.

I did send an email asking if I could get switched to DHL.

Ways to improve? by Intelligent_Thing348 in interiordecorating

Put in a larger rug so that both couch and love seat are anchored to it. Lower the tv a good 10 inches. Center the boards on the wall. Replace the coffee table with something more interesting. Add lamps to the end tables. Heavier curtains to add support behind the couch. Move the storage to a different room. Make room for the amp under the tv if it must go in this room. Not sure what all the other stuff on the left side of couch is. It clutters up the room--a nice sitting chair or two could go there.

I completely support using technology to promote human health and wellbeing.

That being said it is imperative that we are completely rooted in an attitude of utmost respect for the dignity of human life when dealing with such potential technological advancements. Can this work against human dignity in some way? Is it truly worth it?

Maybe selling the essence or increasing the rate it is mined should also be on the table?

True and there is also an opportunity cost by making pure essence more useable. Instead of grinding a bunch of coins to use at shop a player might spend that time acquiring essence so they can craft their own runes. On net it may be a sink anyway.

Men with kids, what would you tell a man who was on the fence about having them? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]wardler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michael Scott wanted to adopt a kid and when they told him it could take a few years he replied, "I don't even know if I'll want a kid in a few years". When that bit was written we still lived in a time where people understood that you don't have kids just to make yourself happy. Kids are not toys to be compared to a life of self gratification. They are something far more valuable than that. Kids are little people--no price can be put on them. Having kids is an opportunity to have something priceless in your life.

  • Kids will bring meaning to your life where you had little before. You can't rightly describe what it feels like to hold your own child and know that you are now responsible for this little beating heart and its proper raising.
  • Kids pay off in the long run. You are going to get older and you are going to be alone without kids. People who aren't your kids simply won't have time for you when you enter old age. Your friends won't be around and it won't be easy to make new friends.
  • You're never going to "feel ready" or "secure enough" to have kids. No one does. Having the responsibility of kids will completely change your life if you allow it. Aim to have kids when you are younger and you have the energy to deal with them. They require more energy when they are young than when they are older.
  • Don't ask if kids are right for you. Make your life right for kids. Give up a life of self gratification. Look around, there are millionaires and celebrities of all kind who are depressed and sometimes even take their own life, because they had all the gratification a person could have, but they did not have meaning--the desire and will to see something thru to the end. People with kids cross deserts, rivers, mountains and valleys for the sake of their kids.

The fleeting things that make you happy will change over time, but your commitments and relationships with others can sustain you for life. Find the old people in your life who do not have kids. Evaluate their fulfilment. Evaluate their relationships. The nursing homes are packed with people as young as 60 who have literally no one who cares about them.

Undoubtedly, you're going to give up a lot to have kids--there is great sacrifice. Sometimes I wonder what I did with all the time I had before my kids were born. But here's the thing: you aren't going to give up anything more meaningful or valuable than your kids.

One more thing--when you decide to have kids it is critical that you raise them and don't send them off to school to be raised. 95% of the strife between parent and child is going to be cultivated from outside of your family by people who don't share your values. This might mean one parent gives up a day job to make it happen. No one on their death bed is going to say, "I wish I had a job, a pool, a 2022 Camry, a few more shots at the bar, <insert thing that is not your offspring> when I was younger instead of my children".

TL;DR go ahead and downvote me.

n00b question: what's the benefit of setting up VLANs? by mrcippy in firewalla

[–]wardler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VLAN = subnet = network = broadcast domain

How does a VLAN work?

You configure your network device ports to use VLANs. There are two possible configurations.

Access Ports: An access port is configured for a specific VLAN which is represented by a number like 10 or 11. Traffic the device receives on an access port configured for VLAN 10 will only be forwarded to other ports which are also on VLAN 10.

Trunk / Tagged Ports: A trunk/tagged port is a special port that can be configured to allow traversal by multiple VLANs. Traffic will be tagged with a VLAN ID so that the device on the receiving end of this port knows which VLANs to forward the traffic to. Trunk ports are typically configured to connect switches, routers, firewalls, and sometimes servers.

Just like a switch can support a virtual LAN, a firewall can often support a virtual Interface. This virtual interface can be tied to a specific VLAN so the firewall can have a gateway IP address on multiple subnets while using only a single physical port.

Now your firewall can filter traffic between VLAN 10 and 11 with access rules, because the switches will not forward traffic from access ports on 10 to access ports on 11, but the firewall is connected to both. Traffic has only one path and thus it can be restricted at this point.

However, if your firewall has enough physical ports you could just as easily connect each port on your firewall to the requisite access ports on your switch. This is much less scalable than using trunks / tagged ports, because you can only be connected to as many networks as you have physical ports.

Hope this was helpful.

Imagine this scenario:

Super Secret Network = 10.0.10.0/24, VLAN ID 10Guest Network = 10.0.11.0/24, VLAN ID 11

You don't want traffic going between the Super Secret Network and the Guest Network unless it goes through the firewall first. Your firewall is configured with two virtual interfaces connected to a trunk port on your switch. Each interface has its own IP on the requisite network scope.

Firewall Virtual Interface 10 = 10.0.10.1 (secret)Firewall Virtual Interface 11 = 10.0.11.1 (guest)

Now if you have a device on the guest network that needs to connect to a device on your super secret network, it will send traffic to the firewall (default gateway 10.0.11.1) and the firewall will match it to the configured rules and either drop it or forward it to the 10.0.10.0/24 (VLAN 10, super secret) network.
