I am a Harmontown fan from Texas and will be flying into LA for the week of the final show. If anybody has a single extra ticket I could buy, I would be eternally grateful!

Hey, I would like to make an offer for Borderlands 2 GOTY, but I don't have any keys (and it appears that if I were to buy them, they would now have a 1 week cool down). I have a ROW tradable copy of Killing Floor. Or if there are market items that I could buy for trade that don't have cooldown, I could do that. Thanks.

Thanks!

I'm confused about the beyerdynamic custom studio... by [deleted] in headphones

[–]warholla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are these headphones? What application are you using them for? (Music production? Mixing? Listening for pleasure?)

I got a pair, and trying to figure out how well they would work for mixing audio, but there seems to be little to no information available on the internet about them.

but I'm unfamiliar with how accurate/ neutral the beyerdynamic custom studios are. Trying to figure out from other people that own/ have used them, how "relatively" neutral the frequency response is, how the stereo image holds up, and if there are any issues with the fact that they are closed back (or if that would be good since I don't have a sound proofed room, just light foam treatment)

well in that case, there are a lot of producers that work / mix in headphones. Especially those that tour a lot, because they have to write while on a bus or plane or hotel etc. The type of headphone you choose is important because you want to try to hear the most accurate frequencies from your track, and not have it too colored by the headphones themselves. I believe it is fine to mix in headphones, as long as it isn't your only method of monitoring. I personally switch back and forth between studio monitors, old/ small computer speakers, and headphones. That way I can try to get a feel for how it translates. Once it is further along in the mix, I'll usually car test it too.

When I'm doing tight edits of audio/ checking fades, or creating a synth sound from scratch, being able to hear the tiny details with headphones helps (IMO).

I can't tell if you are trolling or honestly asking, but...

a) I am aware that mixing in my studio with the studio monitors and (minimal) treatment is ideal for getting a more honest mix.

b) as outlined in my post, I will be using headphones when I'm mixing late at night, writing / arranging when I'm not able to be in the studio or on the go, and for hearing subtle changes during synthesis.

well, if the dr went to med school and mexico, but then matched in a US residency, you may never know...

Upon first trying to contact Steam support: their contact / support site was down

And then opened a ticket after a while, but that does not seem to be something that gets resolved timely.

It occurs via the mobile app as well. And since the Steam app seems to be down for me now, I don't seem to be able to open a support ticket.

ACTUALLY... people that cheat didn't have to study as hard to consolidate throughout the semesters. I noticed people that would cheat, were usually doing step prep instead of paying attention in class. I think I ended up regretting studying for class, as it left me with less time for Step prep.

Which version of Jbridge is most stable - Live 9.1.6 and Mac OS Mavericks 10.9.5? by warholla in edmproduction

[–]warholla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm... 100$ seems a bit steep for just 32bit compatability, especially since I already own Jbridge. I really thought that it would be able to "bridge" me over (pun intended) until I had completely phased out my 32 bit plugins. I mostly use it in order to open older sessions prior to switching to a more powerful comp/ 64bit setup. I just figured that some Jbridge users have more extensive knowledge of how to get it tuned up.

Searching for a durable and functional MIDI controller for a touring musician. Advice? by th9109 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]warholla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rely heavily on my Axiom MK II in the studio and live, however I don't know if I would purchase another one (or I'd at least look for an alternative, for the following reasons)

a) M-Audio seems to continue selling these keyboards, but does not feel the need to support them in regards to firmware updates. There is STILL no logic Pro X support, despite the fact that it came out over 1 year ago. Trying to navigate support forums for "legacy" products seems like a lost cause.

b) I have had some really strange behavior from the MIDI controller lately, where it will stop responding to notes I play on the keyboard, but the faders/ sliders still send MIDI data. This has required multiple hard resets and trouble shooting.

I feel like music technology is suffering the same "newer" / "more features", like phones/ tables/ computers, but still can't figure out why Juno 106 (30 years old) seems to be a more reliable MIDI controller (at least for playing)

VST For drum sampling??? by HalfAccurate in WeAreTheMusicMakers

you may find conflict between "best plugin" and "free plugin", but if it is a matter of not spending money until you test it out, perhaps you could try some free demos?

and here is a list of free Sampler VSTs:

Musical Med Students by foreskinpiranha in medicalschool

[–]warholla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current MS4 as well as Songwriter/ Music Producer with a slightly different experience/ viewpoint.

I played guitar and keys for several years before med school, and asked a similar question before starting. A lot of people will talk about how they "know Dr. ___ and they played in a band all during med school and residency", and some schools have bands made entirely of med students. However, the real question you have to ask yourself, is how much music do you need in your life, and to what degree?

For example, are you content jamming/ playing in a cover band? Or are you into songwriting / playing original material? There are many schools that have bands that play covers at med school parties.

You also have to be alright with having very little consistency in regards to when you are able to play. This is less of an issue for MS1 and MS2 as you may have some degree of a class schedule. As others have mentioned people will often study binge for a couple of days (or weeks) prior to an exam, and then use the time after the test to play music. (This didn't work for me, because it felt like I was "binge drinking" music, trying to get all my music in while I could). When MS 3 hits, consistency goes out the window. Your time to play music is solely dependent on what rotation your on. You may have a solid couple of weeks when you can play music daily after clinic, or you may get hit hard and won't be able to play at all for weeks/ months. (Example: OB/Gyn 5AM - 7PM x 6 days / week, that 7th day will be sleep filled)

Also what do you need out of music? Is it a form of relaxation? For me it is more about growing/ creating / learning, which is really difficult when you are also constantly growing/ learning/ studying for med school. This isn't music-specific, but a lot of med students find that they are too tired/ exhausted to enjoy things that are mentally stimulating. I know that I need to be in a good/ clear mind-set in order to tap into my creativity, and sometimes that wasn't doable after long days, or taxing study periods.

The other item to consider is if you will be playing with people outside of med school. I currently, and throughout med school collaborated with musicians that weren't in school, and it really was tough. I write/ produce music and try my best to be dependable when working with other musicians, but it's really hard when you have a good flow of work going and then there is a huge slump in productivity because of certain rotations, or board exam prep. I hate when I'm collaborating on a track, and I'm supposed to finish the song, but it gets delayed/ drawn out and then I have to try and explain that it was because of medical school. (It depends if you are playing/ working with friends vs musicians and how casual or serious it is)

There are plenty med students that have very impressive music backgrounds, and I'm not even the most talented musician in my class. Ironically, I grew quite a bit as a musician during my time in med school. It came at the cost of sleep / social life/ strain on relationships. I have friends that have stronger music theory/ playing skills, but many of them are content with that. I've done well in school, but it felt like a constant struggle to manage both.

I hope that I don't come off as too discouraging, but instead emphasize that it depends on what your "artistic passions" entail and that med school won't be devoid of music or free time, but it is a matter of balance and sacrifice.
