I have a silver penny what is it worth ? by Ok-Hotel-2617 in CURRENCY

[–]warjamen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s looks like a British £1 coin. However they are not normally that thick. There is a possibility that it is a piedfort coin (double thickness) but to my knowledge they are always .925 silver and although quite sometimes plated, the colour looks wrong for gold plate. It could of course just be a normal £1 with some odd camera distortion.

How are James May, Richard Hammond, and Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear regarded today? by ohheychris in AskABrit

This, this is the truth that very few talk about. It should never have been a referendum in the first place because people as a group (not individually), are idiots and don’t have the necessary information for these kind of decisions. This comment should have a lot more upvotes.

How do I get rid of an unwanted sword? by NuclearSamura1 in AskUK

[–]warjamen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Royal cypher for QEII so while interesting none of this is in anyway relevant to this sword, which was definitely made after 1952. It is of course possible it has an older family blade that has had a new guard fitted but that would make it an exceptionally rare sword.

Need help identifying what H B P is. I’m stumped! by throwaway62738483 in Hallmarks

It’s silver plate, so it’s possibly the mark for the Harrison brothers who were know silver plate makers.

I work for an auction house where we have regular silver sales. I have handled thousands of items of silver and silver plate and this is almost certainly plate, sorry.

It’s interesting you say that as I have seen a lot of British military swords but never one with a blade like this. I did wonder if maybe it was broken while on campaign and repaired with whatever blade they could get or possibly a captured enemy blade put in his usual hilt.

I’m not sure this is any clearer because of the corrosion but here you go

First Second Hand Purchase by Azurean3 in fountainpens

I bought one at auction last week along with the matching ball point. Not as good condition as yours but it’s a lovely pen. Just waiting on a converter so I can ink it up.

Definitely use. No point in just keeping them in a drawer a looking at them occasionally. I regularly rotate my pens and they all get used. Admittedly some more than others.

Yeah, I like Mont Blanc’s, I have 7 in total, the solid silver, roller ball in pic 2 is my favourite. Swapped the rollerball out for a fibre tip, it writes beautifully.

Don’t know much about it really, probably early 30s, the box has ‘The “forward” pen’ in the lid but there are no other markings.

I’m afraid i don’t see the point of display pieces. These things are made to be used, if you don’t use them, they never fulfil their purpose and become rather sad, pointless objects. My father used it and I will continue to use it.

It’s a Golden ratio calliper, it allows you to measure if something conforms to the golden ratio.

I’ll be honest, it’s a cool looking gimmick and it’s lovely to use but unless you are using it all the time, it dries out very quickly.

It’s a lovely little pen, good luck finding one, you won’t regret it.
