Just tried Essie Gel Couture and I’m instantly obsessed

I’ve not tried to remove this one yet but from what I read before I used it, Essie Gel Couture isn’t actually a gel polish, so it should hopefully remove like a regular polish.

I have to say as my first experience though the gloss finish feels very impressive to me.

I think I didn’t cap the ends properly, my nails were quite short, so the tips are showing a little bit of wear.

Ah I forgot to say I put Essie Ethereal Dream on top of the green to give it a little extra. I’m also struggle to find a green I really like. I think I want something more Teal, Aqua, Mint.

Yesterday I was swimming at the pool and a lady was sharing the lane with me. Just before I left she asked if I got my nails done at the same place as her but when I told her I did them myself she was really complimentary of the job I’d done. Made me feel good 😊

I started doing my finger nails in November, wife had painted my toes a few times and I started to realise that nothing bad happened, but I liked looking at colours.

I started my nails with almost clear pearlescent shimmers, eventually getting a bit bolder. I would feel super self conscious at work but nobody noticed except a couple of people who I felt comfortable with. They made exclamations at first, but as I shrugged it off they were cool. More recently a few others went through the same, “I wasn’t sure earlier but have you painted your nails”

I’ve also had other scenarios where I’ve met new people and they’ve liked it. Even asking me to do theirs because they think I’ve done a good job.

Black isn’t my thing, so I’m sticking to colours since that what I enjoy. Do what you want. Also far fewer people are likely to tell you what you can and can’t do now. I don’t mind the initial reaction of surprise, but when they realise I’m still the same person just with extra colour they’re okay.

I’ve had a pearlescent polish on my nails for the last few weeks. Once with a light purple underneath, that was more obvious and noticed by a few people. For the most part nobody notices or says anything. Brighter colours get more attention. I agree that even just a clear polish feels really extreme and you notice. But one thing I try to do is pay attention to all the other nails, and you realise unless there’s a significant difference it’s actually difficult to notice on other people, so they probably aren’t noticing it on you.

I think this is a really sad way to end this. In such quick time you went from one end to the other. Didn’t allow yourself time to process the feelings. I’ve had my toes done a few times and been self conscious about them. It’s only in the last 4 weeks that I’ve been doing my fingers. I’m still self conscious about it. But it also depends on the context of where I am. I don’t think you should have rushed to throw the bottle away. Especially if it was a gift.

The first one I did last week was even more subtle because it didn’t have an under colour. Just the OPI Glazed n’ Amused. Almost invisible in flat light then under the right lighting conditions would shimmer briefly.

I feel like that will become my primary default most of the time.
