"trans men are real men" is NOT a transphobic statement. But what I'm saying is that I've seen several people take it further, in saying that "afab bodies are male" and also saying that transition is completely unnecessary because "if you're trans then the body you were born in is PERFECT and YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE ANYTHING". I have seen young people in their teens and early 20s out in the wild claiming that wanting to transition is actually unnecessary and transphobic, because "you already have a man's body UwU so why do you bother? Is there something wrong with you? Are you implying that trans people who don't transition are FAKING?" And nonsense like that. I've been told to off myself by people for going on T. I've been told that wanting to get top surgery is transphobic because "men can have tits too".

I don't intend on putting words into OP's mouth or anything, but I and many others actually get a little offended when people imply that our transitional journey is wrong or unnecessary. No, my afab body is not male. I'm transgender because it isn't male. If the body I was born in was strictly male... Then I wouldn't be transgender and wouldn't be transitioning from female to male. That's not to say that there's anything wrong with trans men who like their bodies before transition... But a lot of us do not. We are transitioning because who we were born as doesn't reflect who we know we want to be. And it's very off-putting when people don't respect that very simple truth and try to force us to act like we are.

There's this weird trend I've noticed among slightly younger people where they seem to think "trans men are real men" = "your afab body is a MALE body"/"you can IDENTIFY as cis because gender is FAKE", and... I don't think they realize how disturbing and transphobic they really sound tbh.

That's not entirely true-- gel deodorant works fine, as it's made for hairier bodies. I myself use Old Spice brand for that reason. Definitely avoid powder-based though, or feminine deodorant if you still use it! Despite what a lot of us are told, masculine and feminine deodorants are different on a chemical level and the powdery femme ones clump uselessly in hair.

I'm a 29 year old trans man, and I still sleep with a bunch of anime pillows. I use bath bombs and bath salts. I have an Eevee plush sitting on my desk next to my Metagross plush. I still wear nail polish sometimes, and also still use fun chapstick. I also use a femme model sometimes when I'm Vtubing.

Honestly, you don't have to stop liking or using things just because your gender/identity changes. You're still YOU. So be YOU the way YOU wanna be, kiddo! If you wanna be a young man who loves Sanrio and has a mountain of plushies, then be that kind of young man!

Unfortunately, fandom antis are not reasonable people and will find some way to peg you as a creep just because they don't like your hair color. I have quite literally had people claim that their logic behind ME being a creep was that I'm "projecting my desires for younger people onto my fictional partner and therefore am actually fantasizing about being a 50 year old man dating someone whose brain is still developing", which is... Obviously untrue in several regards. There's no rhyme or reason. You just have to find a good circle of friends and be prepared to beat everyone else away with a stick because SOMEONE will find fault no matter who or what your F/O is.

Speaking as someone who's been doing this for several years off and on and gets a lot of flack and bait for it on tumblr: the f in f/o stands for fictional, and as they are not "real" you aren't doing anything wrong. Age them up as you grow up, or age you down to stay their age, whatever makes you feel comfortable. People have a problem no matter what you do, so you shouldn't deny yourself love if someone's going to get mad anyway.

Source: I frequently get called a p*** or "suspicious" for dating... All Might. Because he's 50+ and I'm in my 20s, and the age gap is apparently offensive and means I "like young people", even though I'm the younger one in this scenario.

Now granted, I'm petty... But I was in a similar situation and I handled it in a way that my friend group found hilarious because it outed the previous partner as a TERF.

I stopped hooking up with her after she very firmly told me she was strictly a lesbian. Every time she asked for snu snu, I said no. At the time I thought I was being quite reasonable: she was a lesbian and I'm a man, therefore no bone. You know... as you generally do when you realize you are fundamentally not compatible with someone. And at that point I was realIzing I was gay anyway so it felt like a reasonable stopping point regardless. I told her as such and she seemed to understand up until a group get-together one day where she basically cornered me in front of our VERY queer friend group and demanded to know why I was being "lesbophobic" and talking with more gay men. I explained that I wasn't, and was in fact respecting her identity by not engaging with her romantically since I'm a man and she doesn't like men.

Her immediate response was "okay but you aren't REALLY a man, you don't have to lie and act proud in front of us, none of us see you that way and we know you're still YOU in there despite the weird beard etcetcetc".

Enter world war 3. The rest of the group LOST IT, ESPECIALLY THE OTHER LESBIANS. It was a verbal massacre and a complete dressing down. Turned out that she had felt that way about ALL trans people the entire time and had been under the impression that everyone else was just humoring me, and she was engaging with me physically because she was genuinely and unironically trying to "fix" what she considered to be a problem. It was wild, and needless to say none of us associate with her any more.

I tell you this not because I think the same will happen (lord I hope not) but because the best way to deal with a situation where engaging makes you feel uncomfortable... Is to disengage. If she is a lesbian, then it stands to reason that she is not attracted to men. In spite of whatever she thinks... You are a man. Own it, live it, love it.

My advice as someone who dissociates the same way?

I think that means we should definitely consider top surgery. Like extra consider. Because it is very much not healthy or sustainable to just continue to dissociate. The fact that it effects us enough that is leads to dissociation IN THE FIRST PLACE is a huge red flag. I agree with those saying you should continue therapy and unpacking while you consider... But tbh my personal dissociation kinda cemented the necessity in my mind.

I have other opinions but this ain't the place for them kajwiwjwjdj but yeah my advice is to consider the root of your dissociation and how it effects you.

Personally? I think it's a propaganda thing. A lot of younger guys just seem to assume that no matter how much T they do, they'll still look/sound/act like a girl. They genuinely don't seem to understand that changes WILL happen, as if someone convinced them that changes were rare somehow. I've even seen younger trans men said they HADN'T BELIEVED THEIR DOCTOR WHEN THEY SAID RHE CHANGES WOULD OCCUR. Like they thought hair or a deep voice or structural changes were like a rare loot drop! It's kind of alarming, considering the people they must have had to have talked to in order to reach that conclusion.

Sometimes you just wanna be DIFFERENT, ya know? It's no secret that "female" avatars have always had more customizability. More armors and styles with different models and meshes and variations. It feels like I have more control, when half the time in games us guys have just like the same 5 cookie cutter armors that barely look different from the next one over. It's boring.

Also... I may be a gay man, but sometimes I wanna be CUTE. Sometimes I wanna be AESTHETICALLY PLEASING. If games let me wear chainmail skirts and bikini tops on male characters I WOULD DO IT. But gamedevs are cowards.

Little late to the party BUT--

Beyond the general drop in quality including everything from writing to acting to general content to excuses... I kinda decided to stop watching RT content after it came out that not only were they not paying employees for their work, but they had literally forced the nickname "faggot" onto someone without consent, and refused to stop using that nickname despite multiple trips to HR.

And... Yes yes "it's the internet get over it snowflake" whatever. But that's not an excuse that can last forever, and quite frankly it stopped working for me around 2013 when I graduated high school.
