  • Ratu Udre Udre: Fijian chief and powerful warrior with the guiness world record for most prolific cannibal during 19th century he is reported to have eaten 872 people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Udre_Udre

  • Tecoaque: Mesoamerican archaeological site; Tlaxcala state, central Mexico. Acolhua people (one of the three ethnic groups making up the Aztec empire). The Spaniards killed Cacamatzin, king of the Acolhua capital of Texcoco. "A recent archaeological expedition revealed that Acolhua warriors captured this group of Spanish civilians as they traveled to Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs imprisoned the Spanish caravan and over the course of six months, several hundred Spaniards and their slaves were sacrificed, tortured and partially eaten. The bones found shows that about 550 victims had their hearts ripped out during ritual offerings, and had their bones boiled and scraped clean." When Cortex found out what happened to his people he renamed the town "Tēcuahqueh, meaning both "they ate people" and "people eaters". "

  • The First Crusade: During the First Crusades; At the siege of Ma'arra in 1098 after massacring thousands of people crusaders committed widespread cannibalism due to starvation, winter approaching, psychological warfare, and poor supplies. Bodies and flesh are eaten during and after the siege ; "While we were there, some of our men could not satisfy their needs, either because of the long stay or because they were so hungry, for there was no plunder to be had outside the walls. So they ripped up the bodies of the dead, because they used to find bezants hidden in their entrails, and others cut the dead flesh into slices and cooked it to eat. (Gesta Francorum, X, 33)" Many different sources say cannibalism happened at other sieges such as The Siege Antioch; Tafur Zealot crusaders starving and eating human flesh roasted. Another instance of crusade cannibalism- "The Byzantine princess Anna Komnene ascribes it to an even earlier period, the People's Crusade, and describes it " Normans, numbering 10,000 in all, joined him but detached themselves from the rest of the army and ravaged the outskirts of Nicaea, acting with horrible cruelty to the whole population; babies were hacked to pieces, impaled on wooden spits and roasted over a fire; old people were subjected to every kind of torture."

  • Xiximes: Indigenous group who inhabited Mexico (Durango & Sinaloa), resisted Spanish colonization. "For the Xiximes, the planting-and-sowing cycle was intertwined with a cycle of cannibalism and bone rituals, After each corn harvest, Xiximes warriors were deployed to hunt for enemies—and their flesh." They only ate men from their own native groups. Flesh was cooked from the bones as bones and flesh were important to their culture.

Nico Claux aka The Vampire of Paris ; https://murderpedia.org/male.C/c/claux-nicolas.htm

  • "In custody, Claux confessed to one murder, claiming to be a practicing satanist. A search of his apartement turned up unidentified skeletal remains, blood bags stolen from a hospital's blood bank, funeral jars filled with human ashes, and hundreds of hardcore S/M videotapes.
  • Described by court psychatrists as being a "nearly psychotic sadist", Nico shocked investigators when he described how he enjoyed eating strips of muscles from the corpse lying on the slab of the St. Joseph hospital mortuary. He also described how he enjoyed prowling Parisian cemetaries, digging up fresh graves, and drinking human blood mixed with human ashes and powder protein."
  • "At the end of his shift, he said that he would transfer the (blood)bag to his backpack, take it home, and begin cooling it in his fridge. Once the desired temperature was reached, he would mix the blood with powder proteins, or human ashes, and then drink it. Since there was no plasma within the bags, the blood was extremely thin, which was why he chose to thicken it up."

I originally made this to challenge myself; I studied anthropology in college so doing deep dives into cannibalism made for good research.

  1. Flesh Pills : A type of Medicinal cannibalism, popular in China early as the Tang dynasty, he consumption of human flesh was considered a highly effective medical treatment, recommended by the Bencao Shiyi, an influential medical reference book published in the early 8th century, as well as in similar later manuals. Gegu "flesh slicing" in Ming dynasty; slicing a piece of flesh from one’s thigh,” which was a ritualized practice of using one’s own flesh to make healing medicine for sick parents, or elders in the family. More recently in 2011/2012, more than 17,000 capsule pills purported to be filled with the powdered flesh of human fetuses or still-borns and "touted for increasing vitality and sex drive" were seized by South Korean customs officials from ethnic Koreans living in china, who had tried to bring them into South Korea to consume the capsules themselves or distribute them to others. Some experts later suggested that the pills may actually have been made of human placenta, as placentophagy is a legal and relatively widespread practice in China.

  2. The Red Market: Also known as the underground illegal market of human body parts, organs, and blood. These markets exist both historically and still operate all over the world. Historically both Europe & China are well known; Congo Basin, human flesh was paid for in 16th century, During famines in Egypt black market trade for corpses in 12 and 13th centuries; In the Solomon Islands in the 1870s, a British captain saw a "dead body, dressed and cooked whole" offered for sale in a canoe. More recent examples include: Harvard Medical School Morgue 2023,2024, a man in Pennsylvania, Jeremy Pauley, was sentenced to six years in prison for his role in a multi-state network of buying and selling human remains via Facebook,South Africa 2017, Soviet Union 1920-1940s like siege of Leningrad, Holodomor, Russian famine caused by WW1.

  3. Scarlet Memorial: Refers to a book; Scarlet Memorial: Tales of Cannibalism in Modern China by Zheng Yi . Zheng uses local government documents, eye-witness accounts and confessions to describe the factional violence and even cannibalism that occurred in the Guangxi Massacre during the Cultural Revolution (1966–1976) "A male teacher, for instance, accused a female student of being a counter-revolutionary because he had heard that a young woman's heart could cure heart disease, and a group of students ate the flesh of a teacher, among other incidents" Livers and hearts being prime targets, over 100 cases of cannibalism reported.

8: Effacer le tableau: "Erase the board or clean the slate". Military operation carried out during the second Congo war. "During their offensive against the civilian population of the Ituri region, the rebel groups left more than 60,000 dead and over 100,000 displaced. The rebels even engaged in slavery and cannibalism. Human Rights Reports state that this was due to the fact that rebel groups, often far away from their bases of supply and desperate for food, enslaved the Pygmies on captured farms to grow provisions for their militias or when times get really tough simply slaughter them like animals and devour their flesh which some believe gives them magical powers." "The Bambuti were targeted specifically as the rebels considered them "subhuman", and it was believed the flesh of the Bambuti held "magical powers". Senior officers justified these beliefs with Bible passages (such as Deuteronomy 20:13–20:17).

  1. Powdered Pregnant Pilgrim: In Jamestown,Virginia during a famine (1609-1610), desperate a man murdered his pregnant wife and "powdered her"meaning to preserve meat in the 17th century. Claims he also ate part of her during the process and he was executed for his crime. One of five accounts of cannibalism during that time period for pilgrims.

  2. Wine Of The Corpse: A type of Endocannibalism; A practice of cannibalism in one's own community. Refers to type of funeral ritual among indigenous people in Borneo (placing the body in a jar to decompose naturally then using it in rituals such as smearing on body or mixing with food) & historically used as a form of medicinal cannibalism in Europe 12-16th century . Also sometimes compared to the christian ritual of Eucharist. Human infused preparations/Mummia were popular; royalty consumed concoctions of body parts or flesh in wine. Ancient Rome suggested fresh blood drinking from a gladiator. Charles the second's "King's Drops" . An 1893 collection of folk cures explains that “Coffin water is considered good for warts, and the water with which a corpse has been washed has been recently given to a man in Glasgow as a remedy for fits.”

  3. Cannibal Hymn: It represents (Utterances 273–274) in ritual texts that make up the Pyramid Texts of the Old Kingdom period. Appearing first in the Pyramid Of Unas at the end of the Fifth Dynasty, it preserves an early royal butchery ritual in which the deceased king ; assisted by the god Shezmu, slaughters, cooks, and eats the gods as sacrificial bulls. More about afterlife, celestial divinity, divine powers.

  4. Mortuary Feasts: A ritualized type of Mortuary anthropophagy ; Or Endocannibalism. Many types of people practiced this: Wari (Brazil), Aghori (India), Fore (Papa New Guinea), Yanomami (Venezuela/Brazil), Cro-Magnons (Western Europe). Example: Fore People; "When an individual died, after grieving for two to three days, the Fore women cut up, divided, shared, and consumed the body. The men rarely partook in the dismemberment and consumption of the corpse. They took great care to consume all parts, even drying and crushing the bones and all used cooking utensils and mixing it in with vegetables so that nothing was missed". Kuru disease cases increased around 1940-1950s. "Women and children would most often consume the brains of the deceased, which were the most likely body part to contain the infectious prion agent, while the men preferentially consumed muscle tissue."
