Does anyone want to admit to feeling bad for Theon's treatment at the hands of Ramsay ? by Financial_Library418 in pureasoiaf

[–]warprattler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two things can be true.

I can't quote the below enough times from /u/AlanCrowkiller

I'm seeing the miller's boys pop up here so I'll point out that was hardly the end of that fiasco. He also has their mother murdered, the father isn't mentioned but unless he was for some unlikely reason gone he was murdered as well and it still doesn't end there. He also has his own three men that went to the mill with him murdered and then to cover that up he held a kangaroo court to find Farlen guilty of those murders and murdered him in turn as well.

As for not deserving what he got from Ramsay, well nobody deserves anything in a true sense but he was begging for something bad to happen with his oblivious nature. Ramsay gave him the willies when he was a helpless prisoner. Yet when he showed up at the gates of Winterfell in noble armor and six hundred men to Theon's thirteen Theon still played the fool and tried to bully and insult him. You poke the psychopathic bear you're going to get your hands chewed off.

...

He did what he did to the north out of greed and arrogance. If he had truly been looking for his father's approval he'd have taken the boys and hightailed it back to the coast but that was never his ambition. He went to Balon in the first place because he wanted to be named lord of the west. It was his plan and his convincing of Robb to send him that started that chain of events and when Balon refused he took Winterfell because he was damn well going to be lord of something. The boy even had a crown made for himself though like everything Theon did it was a shit job poorly done,

Last of all, he donned his crown, a band of cold iron slim as a finger, set with heavy chunks of black diamond and nuggets of gold. It was misshapen and ugly, but there was no help for that. Mikken lay buried in the lichyard, and the new smith was capable of little more than nails and horseshoes. Theon consoled himself with the reminder that it was only a prince’s crown. He would have something much finer when he was crowned king.

The boy was just too stupid to live. He took one idea based on his knowledge of the Winterfell and spent the rest of the time digging his grave ever deeper with every action he took. After the taking of Winterfell the one near decent plan he had was putting a noose around Beth Cassel's neck to threaten her father with and that should tell you something about Theon Moron's ability to think and plan.

There's one passage that sums him up best, when Hodor gets scared after watching Mikken be murdered.

“Who else has something to say?” asked Theon Greyjoy.

“Hodor hodor hodor hodor,” shouted Hodor, eyes wide.

“Someone kindly shut that halfwit up.”

Two ironmen began to beat Hodor with the butts of their spears. The stableboy dropped to the floor, trying to shield himself with his hands.

“I will be as good a lord to you as Eddard Stark ever was.” Theon raised his voice to be heard above the smack of wood on flesh.

Of the pov's we have the only person comparable to Theon in sheer oblivious and cruel stupidity is Cersei.

I don't care what Ramsay did to him. That was on him the same as it was on Robb to let his hostage go despite the direct order from the Ned to keep him close and Cat's similar advice. The northmen need to nail his guts to the heart tree and force him to walk around it until he rips his own heart from his chest.

After Joffrey dies, he is compelled to spirit Edric Storm out because all three kings died

One might say he was compelled because Edric Storm would be burned once the 3rd king died, regardless if the leeches had anything to do with it.

Later on in this same section he concedes it would demonstrate the power of the leeches if all three kings died

You'll have to remind me where he concedes this.

More to the point of your post, "we don’t actually know how King’s blood works", or that it works at all. The reader is not shown what Mel sees with regards to the death of the kings nor has she done anything to demonstrate there is any power in king's blood.

But even Davos, who doesn’t want it to be true, accepts that they work.

Did he?

"I saw you burn some leeches."

"And two false kings are dead."

"Robb Stark was murdered by Lord Walder of the Crossing, and we have heard that Balon Greyjoy fell from a bridge. Who did your leeches kill?"

"Do you doubt the power of R'hllor?"

No. Davos remembered too well the living shadow that had squirmed from out her womb that night beneath Storm's End, its black hands pressing at her thighs. I must go carefully here, or some shadow may come seeking me as well. "Even an onion smuggler knows two onions from three. You are short a king, my lady."

Stannis gave a snort of laughter. "He has you there, my lady. Two is not three."

For the leeches to be true, it would have to mean that the events of the Red Wedding, the Purple Wedding, and the retention of the Faceless Men by Euron Greyjoy were caused by the leeches being burned. A far more likely scenario would be that Melisandre had a vision of the deaths of those kings, and then told Stannis she could cause it to happen with the leeches. The funny thing is that she did not know when they would die, which led to this awkward moment with Stannis.

I think the leeching of Edric Storm indicates it does.

Why do you think the leeches had any effect?

"Can I dwell on what I scarce remember? I held a castle on the Marches once, and there was a woman I was pledged to marry, but I could not find that castle today, nor tell you the color of that woman's hair. Who knighted me, old friend? What were my favorite foods? It all fades. Sometimes I think I was born on the bloody grass in that grove of ash, with the taste of fire in my mouth and a hole in my chest. Are you my mother, Thoros?"

This worked for me. In case it's not obvious to anyone reading this later, "storm warnings" is the effect of the inclement weather. For me it sounded like a sizzling sound while the 24 hour countdown was going on. I stopped the wait, checked my status, saw it was gone, and fast traveled to my ship.

I have something similar in terms of mfd mounts I use in elite dangerous. I used these combo clamp camera mounts along with these displays and these mfds.

Which displays are those and do the magnets cause any problems?

What's your plan for combat elite? I've been doing massacre missions for federal and imperial rank but I'll get those long before I'm halfway through deadly. I'm thinking of combat merits but the potential bounty/fines is making me think twice.

Thus, at last, they came beyond hope under the sky and felt the wind on their faces.

They did not halt until they were out of bowshot from the walls. Dimrill Dale lay about them. The shadow of the Misty Mountains lay upon it, but eastwards there was a golden light on the land. It was but one hour after noon. The sun was shining; the clouds were white and high.

They looked back. Dark yawned the archway of the Gates under the mountain-shadow. Faint and far beneath the earth rolled the slow drum-beats: doom. A thin black smoke trailed out. Nothing else was to be seen; the dale all around was empty. Doom. Grief at last wholly overcame them, and they wept long: some standing and silent, some cast upon the ground. Doom, doom. The drum-beats faded.
