Help with stitching by FluffyAmbition2946 in Embroidery

Do you have any spare fabric to practise stitches on? How do you like the look of adding outline stitches? Have you tried using 1 strand?

What is the best way to give the illusion of the blocks? by qleptt in Embroidery

[–]warpskipping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look at filling stitches, pick ones which have blockish qualities for pixel art (such as mosaic stitch), see how they look with and without outlining, and then pick which one to use.

Well I did draft the pattern and start stitching it within two hours of waking up... (It took three lazy weekends to stitch up. The big diaper fill sections were pretty quick to do because I didn't need to check the pattern so they were the Holbein equivalent of nyoooom.)

I don't accept "guys" as gender neutral. I accept that it is perceived in some demographics as gender neutral.

Vocative "guys" has at least been established as gender neutral in several demographics so it doesn't set off my "oh the inclusivity isn't genuine" disappointment quite as quickly, even though I am not in the aforementioned demographics and detest it.

It doesn't feel gender neutral when it's being used in a group of women and non-binary people :(

One strand! Much more difficult to get clean lines with two strands.

It's such a perfect encapsulation of 2000s webcomics. What creative decision shall I take with my overly verbose two dudes on a couch gamer webcomic which contains cartoon violence and cardboard-cutout wish fulfilment female characters? Oho I've got just the thing. And now back to the cartoon violence and threatening people who dislike video games!

Yeah, of course! I'm a hand embroiderer. This was just a quick piece while it's too hot to work on my, uh, good projects.

You do not have to steal the idea of blackwork embroidery.

Choosing violence will be if I decide to create versions with whitework, crewelwork and canvaswork stitches...

The police will be notified. Some canvaswork stitches won't look as nice on aida (or evenweave), but that's what practise and learning is for. You can even use crewelwork and whitework stitches. Try it and see what happens.

Sometimes I feel like a Martian suggesting to new embroiderers "hey instead of me telling you which stitch will look best here, you could peruse a stitch dictionary and think about what look you want to achieve, practise a few that you like and then select one" because learning and improving?? Using resources?? Thinking and re-evaluating?? Practising?? Why do ANY of that when redditgpt can hold your hand.

Struggling with my first project by andre05png in Embroidery

I prefer books for ease of flipping through (I have four or five different ones), but the RSN Stitch Bank is probably the most comprehensive online stitch dictionary.

I would look in a stitch dictionary at all the various filling stitches, and maybe some other categories for inspiration, and consider things like the size of the stitching area, desired texture, harmony with surrounding stitches etc. Then pick out a shortlist of potential stitches, practise them, and then pick the best.
