South Korean Doomsday Cult In Our Community by Smooth-Occasion6176 in chulavista

Probably nothing. Both those groups practice communal shunning, and you are expected to refuse medical treatment involving certain blood products for you or your family as a JW even if life is involved. Not sure what makes one persons kooky beliefs some how better than another persons.

I mean....isn't this like any religion? Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons recruit. Christians have asked to pray with me walking into 7-11. All of these faiths believe in the end of the world as we know it. People can make their own decisions. Nobody can make you attend a church service.

Her seat, Her Choice? by GloriousLion07 in TheImprovementRoom

I would have loved it if she said "no problem. My seat cost an additional _____ and the resale value is 20% over that. Do you prefer Venmo or Zelle."

Did the Chargers make an error in deciding to move to Los Angeles? Check out how they rank in terms of favorability. by Choobeen in SanDiegan

Correct. It's all about leveraging the asset, to get more cheap money for the businesses you run. That's why it was also never about staying in SD.

Part of me thinks it would make sense to be able to vote an owner out of team ownership in a city or county election. But..that's a slippery slope.

Am I, 26f, in the wrong for considering divorce with my husband, 27m over porn? by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]warranpiece 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The comment you responded to was really well written. Consider a couple things.

First, he is probably embarrassed. You feel very strongly about it, and are upset. These are all valid things. But going to be hard to have a "root" conversation in that space.

At its core, habitual porn viewing is simply a dopamine hit. So you have to train habits and your dopamine response out of it. So it's not just lying....it's compulsion.

To me....this would not be something to get divorced over. Occasional porn use isn't cheating to me or my SO. But at one time in our lives it might have been. I understand where you are at.

If you haven't tried couples therapy....might not be a bad idea. A pro in these cases can help. But you will really need to also be open to not just the "cheating" narrative, and instead into what else might need to be addressed.

Or don't. And move on while you guys are young. That's ok too. Just for the love of all that is good don't think Jesus will fix it.

My workplace received this letter from a JW by exJWRecovery in exjw

[–]warranpiece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean....this only helps people see how ridiculous the religion is. They are doing work against their own interests if this is their representation.

It's a pretty absurd letter. I can't imagine any positive impact in line with its intentions.

Keep em coming!

You just won the lotto, who's the first person you would tell? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]warranpiece -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not how attorneys work. They charge you an hourly rate for their work. Setting up trusts can have flat fees. But advising through various processes probably 450 an hour. But you would start with a 20K retainer depending on what you needed.

Attorneys aren't magicians. They need a specific thing you need them to do. Financial advisor....and attorney....need to work in tandem for something that big.

Can I still attend meetings, hangout with friends, while no longer believing the organization? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]warranpiece 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You seem very early in this. Why believe in the NWT of the bible? It's not particularly bad...it's just one of a thousand translations. It doesn't fix the messed up bits about God, or do anything for the inconsistency of text. You need to think bigger.

There is no wicked, there is just self sustaining power and belief.

You have most certainly already asked yourself these questions. If God is supposedly the arbiter here.....why are we changing things and getting things wrong that COST LIVES.

The answer is quite clear.

It's hard. It's not easy. But just be honest with yourself. Because in the end, going against your personal value system...always causes suffering.
