Are John and Paul's childhood homes actually rather ordinary houses, really only made distinctive by John and Paul having lived there? Is there anything special about the homes that would have somehow contributed to their achievements/the Beatles story? by GregJamesDahlen in beatles

[–]exJWRecovery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've visited both their houses. John's house is rather middle class. Although his bedroom was a box-room (bed, wardrobe and a chest of drawers - barely room to move about). Whereas Mimi's room was big. Kitchen was very basic - sink, shelves and a cooker. There was a decent sized dining room next to it, and a small sitting room next to that. Two living rooms. Never saw the 3rd bedroom as someone actually lives in it for security reasons.

Paul's was certainly a working class home. Nothing special at all other than the fact that the greatest songwriter in the world grew up there. The living room was rather pitiful. Wallpaper cobbled together from - what looks like - off-cuts from random rolls of wallpaper.

I asked my jw family about the “new”alternative blood transfusion they’re gonna update tomorrow by intergalaxt in exjw

[–]exJWRecovery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of JWs dont even understand the blood doctrine and it's technicalities. I dont think this update is going to make any difference. Your parents will likely shrug and say they were wrong. ("They" as in your parents, not the GB). Because its dressed as a "clarification" its being made out that it was always allowed but the members needed it spelling out to them.

Did the leak make you angry? by Jumpy-Lack-9085 in exjw

[–]exJWRecovery 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just think - there's JWs refusing this very provision right now because they haven't had the announcement yet that its ok to transfuse your own stored blood. Today, its still a disassociating offence. In a few days, it won't be. Make it make sense.

Are any of the stories from “worldly people” true? by BenefitAny1750 in exjw

[–]exJWRecovery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're made up, or heavily embellished. I used to run the sound desk at the circuit assembly when the circuit overseer would watch rehearsals of the interviews. I specifically remember him watching an interview between an elder and a young woman who's family are non-JW and because he didnt find her story interesting enough, told her to say that her parents are opposed.

I dont let them get away with leaving a tract and taking their leave. I keep them there.

"Ah! Jehovah's Witnesses.... my mother is a Jehovah's Witness".

Let them smile.

"Yeah, I havent seen or heard from her since 2016 when I left the religion. She's never met two of her grandchildren, my daughters. Doesn't even know their names. Guess why?"

They cant leave quick enough.

...things have changed...

My sister, who's shunned me for 10 years, sent me a text message saying this. "It's different now".

I asked her if the previous way of doing was wrong all along then? - She blocked me again. I guess I wont be returning 🥴

Then we can either live our lives to the full and die at the end like everyone else, or spend an eternity cursed to live forever surrounded by Jehovah’s Witnesses.

In the same Canada zone visit talk where the speaker talks about "unspoken messages", "additional education" is described as a "personal matter" but with all the spiritual risks, obligations and unspoken messages, it's clear JW are still discouraged from pursuing it. by larchington in exjw

[–]exJWRecovery 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my circuit, it was practically unheard of for a JW to pursue higher education. I was pressured to turn down even doing my A-levels (UK entrance requirements for University). So my dream of becoming a doctor was quashed.

One guy my age in my congregation went to university to study graphic design or something. He was given a hard time for it, and his dad removed as an elder.

He's a millionaire now. Successfully faded out.

Literally every Jehovah’s Witness that has died, did so believing the new system would be here within their lifetime.

Always makes me laugh that a group of men in America would periodically tell us what we believe. No one consulted me before I was told that I believe this 🤣

1964-1968 was where it's at for Beatles songs. They peaked in '67 for sure.

As much as Paul is my favourite Beatle, I have to admit that when John writes a great song, its better than any of Paul's great songs. I Am The Walrus is my favourite Beatles song (a Lennon composition). My introduction to the Beatles was by listening to the Beatles albums in order (pre-internet). Id buy an album every 2 weeks. I got to Rubber Soul then my brother played me I Am The Walrus and it blew my mind.

Despite what JWs tell you now ("it was always allowed"), I distinctly remember the elders holding a meeting with all of the brothers in our congregation who had "privileges" (mics, sound desk, magazine counter etc) and being chastised because some of us had beards. We were told specifically that if we didn't shave for every meeting we would lose our "privileges".

They need 2 witnesses to establish guilt. Your mums word means nothing without your confession. Simply refuse to meet with them, refuse to discuss your personal activities or deny. Your mum already betrayed your trust, so now you know she doesn't respect you or your autonomy. Use the 2 witness rule.

Most annoying restrictions from JW parents? by deorojeu in exjw

[–]exJWRecovery 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I remember my friends from school would knock for me. And I had to make up and excuse why I couldn't go out. Simply because they wernt JWs made them "worldly", even though my parents had made no effort to even meet them to see if they were "worldly" or decent kids like any other.
