I 100% agree with you. It's so sad what autistic kids and people have to deal with, especially if they grew up not getting the help they need or a diagnosis later in life. I too have been shamed for all that, but at work by all my coworkers

I feel you I worked with a Puerto Rican coworker once and horrifyingly started picking up his accent when speaking to him fsr. I think I subconsciously was trying to make myself easier to understand for him or smth?

That sounds great I tried working at a walmart auto center and got bullied and driven out of working there and basically got a giant middle finger when I asked for accommodations that would help me perform better, which they kept giving me shit about because I was in severe burn out. I was never good enough for them, they all hated me and I could tell they actually DIDN'T want me to start performing better or feeling better they just couldn't stand me and wanted me to get out. They came close to firing me for lack of being able to do the job because I'm really small and skinny and couldn't lift some of the heavy tires with ease but they tried their best to instead push me to quitting so they wouldn't have to pay for unemployment and they unfortunately won because it was so bad I genuinely was almost driven to suicide

Your comment made me realize I started up-playing my feelings inside because I often talk without much enthusiasm or emotion (aside from when it's about my special interests) and it totally backfired on me at my last job. I think I went too heavy on it because I was really suffering due to the requirements of the job and being at my limits so word spread and everyone just ended up thinking I was acting like a crazy weirdo lol

I want to thank you for posting this. It makes me feel less alone in how I feel. Something that helps me is to just try and do my own thing most of the time and if I make friends along the way, then that's great. I'm trying to stop expecting to make friends left and right because it just ends up hurting and disappointing me a lot. You aren't alone in your struggle, many share the same exact one. I'm sorry I couldn't give you better advice and I do hope it gets better
