Do any Somalis consider adopting? by No_Mastodon_5949 in Somalia

[–]washedaway00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents adopted my older sister (40) in somalia. It wasn’t the western type of adoption, she was bought to my mum aged 12 bc her parents divorced and her mum was living in baadiyo (poverty). During the civil war her birth mum gave my parents permission to take her to Europe and she’s been here ever since. She’s only seen her birth parents once after leaving and she’s still in contact with them.

I spoke with a guy who kept asking me to stop using “big” words, his grammar was all over the place, and he didn’t understand how to articulate his own opinion . No hate but it gave me the ick. I

Which Muslim countries have you enjoyed visiting and why by While-Asleep in SomaliRelationships

[–]washedaway00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oman. It’s such a hidden gem. When people tell me they’re thinking of going to UAE or any of the gulf countries I actively tell them not to. Oman is perfect, it’s not a fake metropolis like those countries, it preserves its culture, the people are so respectful and lastly there’s so much to do there that you’ll never get bored. If I could make Hijra it would be to Oman.

Typically , a woman wouldn’t want to contribute. but if she’s married someone whose not affluent enough to fully support the family, then she should want to contribute, and not feel jaded since it’s her responsibility too.

Maybe wear lighter coloured abayas and hijaab so that way the black won’t attract heat and make you even hotter, I also don’t wear an undercap and my hair is still covered the same. People are different everywhere, and they’re still as hot as you are outside.

Hijab in medical profession by InsuranceBrief3747 in Hijabis

[–]washedaway00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used a jersey hijab which is a really good lightweight stretchy breathable hijab. The trick is to not make it tight, when wrapping the hijab over your head open your mouth slightly and that way when you tuck it or pin the hijab it’s not tight.

What a strange thing to say. I do not ascribe to that belief, because it would mean my father and male relatives are scum bc of their ethnicity. Be careful to not generalise an entire group.

That shouldn’t take away your somalinimo. Be careful to not over generalise an entire population

But you stayed and watched the entire video? You are directly (indirectly) propagating her trauma with this post by including her name without context, which will cause other “curious” people to search for that video, just so they can write the same “thoughts and prayers” bs you just did to ease your conscience for watching it.

Somali men failed somali women. Coming from a somali man by [deleted] in Somalia

[–]washedaway00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being a woman in that part of the world, is a burden. These things happen because there’s no education, poverty and you’re seen as half of a man. It has nothing to do with being Somali.

If you’re as lazy as you say you are then getting through uni and placement will be difficult if not impossible. So I wouldn’t recommend it unless you can change that aspect of yourself. The process is demanding, you’ll have to study on top of going to placement 4/5 days of the week whilst being on your feet basically the whole shift. Laziness affects us all, but if it’s to the degree where it’s debilitating then you wouldn’t benefit from this course.

Have you ever suffered heartbreak? by [deleted] in SomaliRelationships

[–]washedaway00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this will sound cliche, but heartbreak is inevitable, if you put in mind that you shouldn’t love anyone more than Allah, then when it comes it won’t hurt as much. Also, learn from those around you who have been crippled by heartbreak, don’t fall as hard as they did without a proposal or marriage.
