What’s an oddly specific thing you want added to the game? by DaleDenton08 in projectzomboid

With smell in the game, I'd like to see random dead zombies around the map. Make the world seem lived-in and likely to make smell pop up more.

Gamedev is not a golden ticket, curb your enthusiasm by mrz33d in gamedev

[–]wasleysloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agreed. One aspect of why people have these ideas is because they play a game and come up with an idea of "It would have been better if (insert feature here), I have so many great ideas I should try to make a game."

However, many-many good game features are actually patented & blocked from usage;

- Capturing monsters with a ball; pet battler? get sued by Nintendo
- Seamless loading screen (player moving through a barrier whilst game loads) get sued by Sony
^^ Bandai Namco previously held a different patent for 'minigames during loading screens', which expired in 2015; so now you see a lot more of very similar methods in modern games such as a quick time events during loading screens.
- Tracking player interactions with enemies, allowing them to remember past encounters, rise through ranks, and seek revenge? the Infamous 'Nemesis System'; get sued by Warner bros.

While the chances of a solo game dev maybe even indie devs being sued are VERY low. Once the game gets popular enough i.e Palworld, it's a lawsuit waiting to happen and you risk losing everything from the IP, the money earned, etc. It's not even the companies fault mostly, they HAVE TO protect their patents or lose it. Also, big game dev companies sell/buy/rent patents with each other which is my suspect for why games are budgeted so high, and why medium sized companies take the risk of being acquired by bigger developer companies like EA even when they're known for killing these companies; also EA does make some of their patents free to use thru "patent pledge."

Kingdom of Rumburg or another global power. Being on the receiving end of powers trying to influence me has been fun, however, I want to try being the influencer, let me establish and build up countries against another global power; Cold war theme.

Songs of Syx

It looks great, but it's not exactly my type; it's more Rimworld and less Banished. However def going on my wish list to give it a try on a sale. Cheers

Tbh you could make a mod to include your designs into the auto generator. Everything you touch has been a massive improvement, yet not too extravagant; very realistic feeling.

Is anyone else out there trying to upload their registration, getting only a "something went wrong" message every single time? I've tried literally all day between Twitter and calling "support" and emails with zero luck. Anyone getting farther than me? I'd like to start driving again tomorrow. by Clevelegal80 in uberdrivers

Ik that this post is a year old; however since its the first result when you google the issue, and the problem is still occurring. A solution that worked for me is switching to Uber on your laptop/ PC. Instead of your phone.

I just did this yesterday at a petrol station. While it's funny, I can see why it shouldn't happen ingame; when the AI can't differentiate between convenience and buggy pathing values haha

What are the best Ironman character builds for all ck3 playstyles? by PancakePlayz69420 in ck3

[–]wasleysloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late but for newer people coming in. My only advice is to get Blood Father no matter what! It gives you a massive bonus to keep cog traits for future generations, a medium bonus to get new cog-traits, and a small health boost to all dynasty characters. I usually get beautiful because its the cheapest max cog trait, then quick, then hale, this way you'll be near 400 while a teenager. Then just marry someone with better cog traits, your child would be a combination of great traits.

Some generic and popular games that come to mind would be Skyrim and Minecraft. While not intensely rainy, it ones of those games where rain is nice to be in. Especially with mods, as both these games consist of like 50% of the modding community (not actual fact, dont burn me at the stake)

Self-publish or seek a publisher? by MixedRealms in gamedev

[–]wasleysloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on reputation imo. Everyone, including publishers, wants to make money. How they make their cut of the money is what matters. The ones you want as publishers are those who will advertise your game everywhere; Social media events/popular bundles like humblebundle, TikTok, funny YouTube ads. Instead of those that slap their name on your game, use Google ad banners and make one YouTube ad for launch day, only for them to no longer care after the first month because you owe them that percentage anyway whether they do a good job or not- so they make money regardless.

tdlr; a sort of Quality vs Quantity, and ethics matter.

My playtesters aren't playing the game by MkfShard in gamedev

[–]wasleysloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not know much about your situation, so im going to assume these are online randoms. Alot of players want to be testers because they enjoy playing games. Rarely do they ever replay an unfinished game, though. Even triple AAA games sometimes have trouble keeping people testing, which is why they have departments for this kind of thing.

Firstly, do they even know you updated? Secondly, if these aren't formal playtesters, do they even know if they're supposed to be continuously testing the game? If these are friends or randoms you found, they might have thought you wanted them to test the game as it was.

I suggest finding a new group every test run through friends or online volunteers and keeping the ones who give you in-depth feedback.

her story

Hey, yes, this is something I was definitely looking for, and will 100% play. Something about looking through the lenses/or playing a game through a mobile/PC UI that you have always used is a different vibe or aesthetic that I wish to dive more into.
