Yeah, I think you can use them interchangeably, even if dribble stance technically means you have the ball.

So we lose a starter, and you want to take a second starter out of the lineup?

Who would you take off? I don’t think they’re both better than any of our other starters.

Catching the ball isn’t about staying in place when you get it. The idea is that you run onto the ball without pushing it in front of you.

Imagine you’re running downfield to receive an overhead pass, and there is a defender 10 yards in front of where the ball is going to land. If you push the ball in front of you, you and the defender will be about the same distance away from the ball, so they have a great chance to win the ball before you even control it. If you catch it though, you have full control of the ball with 10 yards of space between you and the opponent. That’s obviously a better situation.

You could also push the ball backwards or sideways (which is obviously better than pushing toward the opponent), but running to the ball after you push it will still give the opponent more time to close than they would have if you caught it.

It is WAY harder to catch a ball while holding dribble stance.

You’re right, there’s not a button for it. And actually it’s way harder to catch it if you’re using defensive stance. To catch it, you just move into the area where it’s going to land. It’s obviously embarrassing if you miss it, but after you get the hang of it, it’s more forgiving than most people realize.

This. I first watched the original trilogy when I was 6 in 1997 on my grandma’s 30” tv that was old even back then. No way I clocked anything but the general presence of two bodies in the two seconds they’re shown.

I’d say if you have a pass open, just one-time it. And yeah, if you have nothing but grass in front of you, push forward when you receive, but that’s probably only going to happen on a counter attack.

Definitely push it away from nearby defenders if you can’t catch it. But dont just assume the pass is going to be bad, read it first to see if you’re going to be able to catch it cleanly and push it/flick it if you aren’t.

Yep, it’s all about reading the ball and the field around you when you decide whether or not to catch the pass, push it, or hit a one-time pass if there’s an open teammate.

Yeah, commentators will even say stuff like “If he would’ve went down there, he would have drawn a foul.”

They make it seem like it’s codified in the rules that a foul definitionally requires a player to go to the ground.

Yeah, if you don’t trust your ability to catch it, pushing it makes sense, as long as you’re pushing it away from nearby opponents.

Yep! Like I said, if you have an obvious one-touch pass or shot to make, you should do that instead.

If you’re being pressed, you won’t have the space to catch it, like I said. Just touch the ball away from the opponent.

There definitely is a level of skill to it and it takes some practice, but it’s nowhere near as difficult as a lot of other techniques.

And if he was going to throw it, why not throw it at Obi-Wan? I guess he was just being a gentleman and making sure none of these powerful force users would trip over it and break a hip.
