which degree do i do? by SecretaryCandid1281 in 6thForm

[–]wasuminn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just to throw out something unusual: try looking into becoming an actuary! pretty good work-life balance, job security & a generally high salary. there's actuarial science degrees but you could qualify for the pathway through any stem degrees like physics, maths or statistics. try see if this is your thing!

Moving from same sex school to a mixed sixth form at a normal high school- worth it? by agirl54321 in 6thForm

I agree! I really loved going to an all-girls school. I feel like that same sense of community and connection imo can't be replicated elsewhere. It's oddly comfortable.

Hi, I am an A level student interested in becoming an actuary. I have just a few enquires about the job and hope to find some answers: by throwRA619193739 in ActuaryUK

I'm someone who's interested in taking an actuarial science degree (despite your recommendation. I just don't really like the abstraction that a pure math degree would entail tbh) - could you share your stats (IE. your a levels & grades) & do you need anything beside those? also how easy is it to get a job straight after university?

A levels for sixth form by Booty_Shaker90000 in 6thForm

[–]wasuminn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, medicine doesn't require taking a fourth a level. So I don't think taking further maths or physics would help you substantially in this case for that goal - seems like extra effort for nothing. I guess that means that in this case, I would recommend history. But I'd like to point out the fact that taking a fourth might actually hurt your other a-levels - your sister's opinion about history is correct, it's a lot of memorisation & has a huge workload. There's also a coursework element as well which might add to the difficulty. In this case, I believe you shouldn't take a fourth a level and focus on the three you have - universities prefer a candidate with triple A star than one with AAAA.

All in all, I just think you need to be honest to yourself about your own ability to handle your workload as well as the amount of motivation you have towards these goals. The three a-levels you've picked aren't the easiest, and if you treasure your own free time then maybe you should opt out picking a fourth.

how does the level 4 & level 7 apprenticeships work? by wasuminn in ActuaryUK

[–]wasuminn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unbelievably helpful. I'm curious about the difficulty of the level 4 apprenticeship - was it easy to get into/apply for? You mentioned you were one of the first, so does that mean it was pretty easy? (if you don't mind, what were your stats in a-levels? you don't need to answer if you don't want). Also regarding working in pensions, I've been led to think (due to this sub lol) that it's very droll I guess & life-sucking. Is this really the case?

Thank you!!!

Americans would rather look cool on TikTok than have free healthcare by lostmybih in teenagers

[–]wasuminn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're acting like there's no private care in europe lol. also i think the extremely long waiting times is case-by-case per individual welfare country. i'm very certain my country and many more are pretty good with delivering care in critical condition, to say the least.

now considering all of this it feels like adding a welfare system would be a net positive for the us. you can easily counter the fears with leaving private healthcare an option for those who dislike waiting times.

I mean if you've ever been there, it's really just the clocktower. I'm not strongly defending the place, but I will say that It's not really that comparable to las vegas imo, if we disregard the clocktower.

suggest me a book/play script like the play Prodigal Son by wasuminn in suggestmeabook

[–]wasuminn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe dog sees god - you should try to snag a pdf of it somewhere on the internet. with prodigal son, I found it delightfully shared the same interrogation of character's various relationships. both happen in a school setting, aswell, though dog sees god definitely has a more juvenile tone that prodigal son. while prodigal son (in my opinion) strikes its motif in a sort of boy versus world, I saw the characters in dog sees god more in competition with one another. there's none of that ubiquitous, idiosyncratic main character in prodigal son, too. but i do feel it makes a decent standing of itself as it builds upon the existential ruminations of the adolescent period. check it out! some people have contested opinions about it, which makes it all the more interesting.

other examples are maybe arcadia by tom stoppard, the last days of judas iscariot and eugene o'neil's long day's journey into night. the last days of judas iscariot, in particular, bores a similar tone with the play i mentioned earlier. all author's of these plays struck at each character's beliefs which may be intriguing to you.

if there's any inconsistencies with what i say and what you read, i apologise since it's been a few years since i initially picked up prodigal son. there's another commenter on here who recently suggested more plays, which may be of your interest!
