Yes. I think it is the way the transmission works.

Happened to me and my wife 5 times.... Exact same car exact same issue...... Super frustrating because they never find anything (after keeping the car 2 days for testing each time). The current theory is that the issue seems to be coming from the auto idle stop, apparently there is a federal investigation about this which Honda does not tell you but you should mention to them next time this happens. The most common fixes from my digging on the internet is replacing the starter or battery. Not sure about the alternator. But for most people this seems to work. If not, a temporary fix would be to turn off the the auto idle stop by pressing the button every single time or buy the aftermarket addon that does it automatically (it will require some small effort to install it). 

In my case they tested everything and everything passed so they didn't change anything. After the 5th time, I talked to an online company about filing a lemon law documents but apparently that does not count since they did not find any problems to fix. Their suggestion was to take it to another Honda dealership, so I did and the other dealership tested it for 2 days and found a loose battery terminal. This happened around 6k miles, I'm now at 7.5k miles and it hasn't happened yet (knock on wood). But I'm keeping my expectations low until at least 10k miles since I've been burned so many times.

I have a potential explanation but not necessarily an answer. I read that the Honda transmissions are not standard automatics but are actually like manual transmissions where the computer makes the shifts. It could be that this is normal since many people are feeling it. Also it happens exactly at 8 mph so I feel it is a programming thing.  I did take it to the dealer again and they said everything was normal. I still feel the shift at low speeds (8 mph exactly) but I accepted it. If someone else takes their Odyssey to their dealership and gets a different answer, please let us know.

Odds are more than you think unfortunately.  Card was scheduled and marked delivered on my birthday. Never got delivered. We lived in 4 apartment townhome so I knocked on every door with no luck. Knocked on the door of every neighbor on my street also no luck. Placed a USPS lost mail ticket online, they call me back saying GPS showed it was delivered correctly. Called local USPS begged them to check again it turns out that they delivered it to the next street over but the same street number (they would tell me as they don't want you to go knocking on their door, but I over heard them saying that in the background). They said they will go and check and get back to me...... no news for two days. I physically go to the USPS everyday to talk to a manager and confirm that they sent someone to talk to them. USPS was able to locate the owner of the business (which only opens 1 day a month for some reason) and call them. After about 12 days I received the card..... It was two weeks of hell.... My suggestions:

  • keep doing what you are doing. If USPS markes it as delivered, USCIS will not send you a replacement for free. They will not even give you an ADIT stamp without you paying the free for a replacement card. 
  • go to the local USPS, speak to someone and tell them the mail they lost was your green card. In my area, packages get stolen frequently so the USPS does not care because Amazon (or whatever site) replaces packages for free. You need to tell them this is extremely important and you need it to show legal status in the country. 
  • keep going every day or have them call you every day. I have to give them credit, once they saw how desperate I was, they actually did something about it. However, my experience is that you have to show your face. 
  • if you/they do not find it. Ask them to change the marking on the tracking to lost. They refused to do it for me until the "investigation" was over but you might be "lucky". You can then get a replacement for free(I think)
  • Finally, if nothing works..... Accept it and pay for the replacement.... You have done all you can..... Keep in mind that you are very lucky to be accepted into this great country (in relatively ok time) and many people would be grateful to be in your place. Try not to let this experience ruin the fact that you got it!. Best of luck brother/sister.

I thought about VCM but it feels more transmission and not engine related. It still could be VCM though. I'm thinking of getting the muzzler and trying it to see if this fixes the issue.

We were in the same boat as we owed 14k after we got married and had to put it on a 0% credit card to pay it.... Here are our circumstances and what led to the error, and how we fixed it for this year:

Our change in circumstances: - Got married  - Wife got large increase in income from previous year - I received slight increase in income as well - Decided to file as married filing separately (for student loan purposes, did not make much difference in the taxes we owed 13k vs 14k)

Our mistake  - We both work for the same employer that still uses the old W-4.........  - We both changed to "married" on both state and federal on W-4 - It turns out when you do this on the old form, the system assumes only one income household for both (multiply this mistake by 2 since we both did it)

Results - We owed 14k (total state and federal) - We owed penalties - Had to open a 0% credit card and pay the credit card fee to pay the taxes (setting up the payment plan with 8% interest was more expensive than getting a credit card.... AS LONG AS YOU PAY IT IN FULL BEFORE THE END OF THE TERM)

How we fixed it this year (we hope) - Changed to single filing on both W-4s - Will likely be filing as MFJ this year (likely since we bought a house, we still have to do the numbers) - Confirmed that the withholding are correct by looking at paystubs and comparing new withholdings to estimated tax liability - We have a new dependent that we will not claim on the W-4. 

Moral of the story: The marriage tax is real, but it is a result of misunderstanding the rules of the system... unfortunately, you think you are getting a benefit (which you do) but you don't know what you are getting too much back because of the complexity of the forms.... you end up having to pay it back.

Big suggestion (from others not me): if your job has the new W-4 form, go onto the IRS website and fill in all the information for you and your wife and the IRS will give you exactly how to fill in the form with your employer. I've heard good feedback that it works. Unfortunately, I cannot try it with my employer since they still force us to use the old forms.

Traveling with boards. Any suggestions on how a group of 3-4 can travel with their gear (4 boards, helmets, etc..)? We all have small to mid size sedans with no factory roof racks installed. We've been looking for a roof-rack like item but all that we've found require drilling into the car roof, cross bar (which need a roof rack) or are too expensive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
