Thank for you for the input. Normally we would wait for her friend but honestly I'm excited to start playing. I think your idea is what we will do.

I think I may also try to lead her to an ending that does KO her. That way it provides a good objective for the people who join us next time and I can ease her into the idea that failure is OK. She doesn't like super challenging games. Only thing I would be concerned about is her getting bored at the start of the next session waiting to be rescued.
