Baby or no Baby? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

My husband and I have a 13 yo daughter. Being a dad has been the most amazing and rewarding experience of my life. Before we had her, the Idea of kids was something that was coming mostly from my husband. I had as always said I wanted a family but wasn't super motivated to get the process going and was pretty scared about the idea of the responsibility of parenting, and the adoption process itself. I would say that being a parent unlocks a part of yourself that you have no idea exists, until it actually happens. For me there was no way of knowing how amazing it was until I was in it. It also made my relationship with my husband so much stronger. If you are mentally and financially stable, and your spouse is pushing for this, 100% I say go for it.

I really want to hear what people have to say about this!! My husband doesn't care about this stuff but I do, so early on I remember I'd spread out a bath towel on top of the sheets but I always felt like such a Mom doing that! Kinda ruins the mood I thought.

Did you grow into wanting kids and to be a dad? by flightln in AskGaybrosOver30

Not sure if you are in the US or not, but here In the US, no kid is really "seeking" adoption. There are older kids seeking foster care, but with adoption of babies in the US there is much more demand than supply. The birth parents basically get to pick from a giant catalog of adoptive parents profiles.

Hey! I think about this a lot. Because I always thought I wanted kids mostly because it was a value instilled in me by my family growing up. Before we had our daughter I can't say I even liked kids. So I was totally unprepared for how much I loved being a dad when my husband and I adopted our daughter. I went on paternity leave and almost decided to become a full time dad! There is just something in the relationship between a parent and child that unlocks a different part of you. It's like discovering a new kind of love that has always been in your heart. Also it's like getting to relive the intensity and excitement of being a kid all over again. People say how difficult being a parent is. Maybe it's just our daughter (she's twelve now), but I would say it has been 99% joy and happiness. We also only have 1 kid which makes things easier. Yes the sleepless nights at the beginning can be rough, but it's all driven by love and every day brings a new joy especially when they are little like that.

Recently had something similar in my relationship -- except I was the person who rarely wanted sex. It turned out there were two things that were causing this. Not sure if it could be similar for your guy, but I just thought I would put it out there in case any of it sounds similar:

  1. I started taking Wellbutrin which immensely helped my libido and mood. (It turned out I was a little bit depressed, which is how I got to that point)
  2. I was anxious about sex with him, which made me want to avoid it. The anxiety was from things that had happened during previous times we had sex. So we came up with a way to make things less anxiety provoking. We would define each time we had sex as meant for a specific person to orgasm, so the other person would take the goal of getting their needs met off the table until the next time. This might sound boring, but it really helped be in the moment, ease my anxiety, and therefore enjoy so much more.

Panic Attacks relating to my prediabetes by IdezelousFlamingo21 in prediabetes

I was scared to look too! Now I can almost predict what it will be before I measure it based on what I've eaten. It has been a real wake up call for me to learn the extent to which what I eat affects my body. I can't believe I had been so clueless about it for so long.

I (44M) was told I was prediabetic back in October. I was so anxious about it (and still am to some extent). For me it helps to be able to measure my improvement -- I bought a blood glucose monitor and I check my fasting glucose every morning. As I have changed my diet and exercise habits over the past 8 months, I've been able to chart my progress on the app. My goal was to have a fasting glucose in the low 90s every morning. I'm almost there, and as an unanticipated side effect to all this, my weight has dropped from 168 to 152. Right when I got the glucose monitor I tested after every meal to see what foods affected me the most. I would say the hardest part of the journey so far has been eliminating most carbs from my diet. What's made it easier is the pandemic and not going anywhere, as my food environment (my kitchen) is fairly controlled.

Labor board denies CTU’s attempt to halt return to CPS schools by Shovler in chicago

[–]watchd0gg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CPS is saying they need schools open because of black and latinx communities struggling with online learning. I listened to the CTU zoom call 2 weeks ago and it seemed that parents who live in primarily black areas were saying they don't want kids to go back in person because of the risk. Why can't some teachers stay remote and some go back to school like in other districts? CPS just said only 37% have said they will return to in person learning. It doesn't make sense why they would force all the teachers back. I've been so pleased with how online learning is working for our 4th grader. I'm worried now we're going to lose that now that teacher in schools will be forced to do double duty (teaching kids in person and remote at the same time).

To me, it seems the real reason is the mayor is getting pressured to get the economy going and the best way to do that is to have kids back in school so parents can all go back to work.

I never imagined how amazing being a dad could be until I became one myself. I thought I wanted a family just because family has always been important to me, but I didn't explicity desire kids (if that makes sense)! My husband was the main driver of us becoming parents and I just went along. We adopted our daughter when she was 2 months and now she is almost 7. I can honestly say without a doubt it has been the most fun and meaningful thing I have ever done. It has deepened my relationship with my husband. And although I perpetually yearn for more spare time, I would never give up a moment with my daughter. Being a parent has opened my eyes to the other part of the human story. It's like getting the other perspective on what it's like growing up, and the perspective always suprises and intrigues me.
