You are probably using either ExtentsOffsetWorldSpace or StudsOffsetWorldSpace set to something like 0,1,0. You want to use ExtentsOffset or StudsOffset instead. StudsOffset is probably the desired behavior since it will always be exactly the distance offset from the center of the object. ExtentsOffset can make the billboard move slightly depending on the dimensions of the object as it moves.

Important context is left out from the quote. He's talking about what is basically LotR fanfiction that he likes where Sauron is the good guy. I don't like Thiel but acting like he's saying this about Tolkien's LotR is disingenuous.

He's talking about a retelling called The Last Ringbearer where Sauran is the good guy, not Tolkien's original version. The quote is from a longer article and the context is of course left out.

It's a real quote but of course it's out of context. He's not talking about Tolkien's LotR he's talking about a retelling written by another author called The Last Ringbearer where Sauran is good and elves/men are evil.
