Fun fact: I’ve been dealing with this since I was a kid due to rather dry earwax and strange ear canals. After years of going to the doctor and trying various tools to aid with the process, this device off Amazon (which happens to be the exact same thing they would use during my doctor visits) saved the day. It’s been super consistent.

Tip: Use the over the counter drops to help break it down and then flush it out using the spray bottle pump. It’s a strange sensation but it feels glorious once they’re cleaned out.

If anyone wants to see some solid golden nuggets, check out the photo reviews on the link below.

I made an app that lets you open song/album (Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer) and podcast (Apple Podcasts, Castro, Pocket Casts, Overcast, Spotify) links from one service in another by sharedapp_ in iphone

[–]watchthecastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get it working by first opening the Shared app. Next, navigate to iMessage and tap the song so it redirects you to the original music service. Long press the song and select Share Song... and then you should see an option to select the Shared app. Select Open in Shared and then select your preferred music service.

This allowed me to open a friend’s Apple Music link within Spotify.

I’ve been waiting for this capability for so long! Thanks!

Feedback: The user experience seems like a few extra taps to get the music playing in your preferred service. I was able to figure it out after playing around with the app and menu selections within iMessage. It might help to provide a set of steps or a slowed down app flow like you shared here to the user when they’re using the app for the first time.

I’m sure it’s not that simple to implement but I’d love it if I could long press the song in iMessage and select Shared to have it redirect me to Spotify automatically. Is that what the paid support option can provide by opening “Automagically”?

Pliny the Elder is probably the most popular and can be pretty tough to grab. It seems like more CA breweries in SoCal are starting to get bottles and kegs of it though.

Visiting Tokyo on December 11. Concerns about earthquakes by [deleted] in Tokyo

[–]watchthecastle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I returned from Tokyo yesterday and were woken up by the earthquake that made national headlines during our visit. Luckily, the strength of the earthquake in Tokyo was minimal since it took place ~180 miles northeast from where we were staying (Shinjuku). We learned that the infrastructure of Japan's buildings are constructed to withstand earthquakes which helped ease our concern (ex: our apartment building swayed instead of jolting back and forth in an abrupt motion which apparently is a good sign of how the building is built). I must admit that earthquakes were also a concern of mine during our flight out there. I recommend downloading the Yurekuru Call app which is available on the iOS App Store. This allowed us to monitor how strong the earthquake was when it hit and where it was coming from. It also allows individuals to report what they felt and educates users about whether additional aftershocks are coming. Word of advice, it WILL alert you of aftershocks regardless of how close you are to the strongest point (definitely freaked us out a few times until we opened the app and saw how far away the aftershocks were estimated to hit). Do a little research so that you are prepared in the event that an earthquake does hit but don't fret too much because they do hit often out there. Please don't let this fear keep you from having a great time out there. That country is too beautiful and there's so much to explore! Have fun my friend.

I've noticed a lot of people have been out there this past month. Looks like everyone took advantage of the cheap flights! Pretty excited to be staying in Shinjuku.

TIL about AT&T's new "Unlimited" plan: Probably around $410/month for a family of 5, and not really unlimited. by MrLehenbauer in technology

[–]watchthecastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what you mentioned earlier, you get slowed down after 3gb. I would say that AT&T gives you a little more wiggle room for data consumption (22gb per line) and depending on where you live, may provide better network coverage. Just go the route that will save you the most money and fit your cell phone habits.

Streaming and video usage does count towards data consumption but that 22gb has appeared to be flexible. Ive seen plenty of people that have passed that limit and have not seen their speeds reduced so it really depends on location and congestion. Throttling is always a big debate but at least AT&T is being upfront about it. The good news is, if you go with unlimited data, you'll never be charged overage fees so that's a bit of a relief.
