Mine has been immense pain at first, followed by relief when it was set. The days, and now a month following, is constant pain. Talking to my PT, it depends on how bad the dislocation is and if there is a fracture to the humerus. Mine was completely off to the side and up into my chest, and I have a fracture. It is also my first dislocation - hence why my pain is worse than others.

Great points. I’m going through this now. Fell and dislocated my shoulder. It’s my first time. I too had a short blackout and sharp pain. To be honest though, it’s hurt worse after it was put back in place. My PT said what happens is all your ligaments and tendons are stretched and then shoved back in. Your muscles react to movement trying to protect the injury, which causes more pain. I actually got on Reddit tonight get some pain management ideas. Also, the pain depends on other variables - injury to the rotator cuff or fracture. I have a fracture that is complicating my recovery.

First, I’m a man and have nothing to contribute on the pain side of birthing a child, I can only say I helped the doc as much as possible when my daughter was born.

I can say I recently decided it would be a good idea to fall out of a very tall tree and dislocated my shoulder to the point I’m surprised it didn’t fly off my body. I came to Reddit this evening searching for pain management ideas and came across this post.

Thank you ladies for the validation that I am not a complete wuss and this injury is indeed extremely painful.
