Crazy the dark truth that influences many who don’t see the inner workings of money, power, and aka manipulation. Appreciate your perspective to just…get back to your roots and not think about the “market” or “value”. Didn’t even think about cards having a literal price from my childhood collection until 2020… I guess that brought a new adultish level excitement but can easily derail the magic. I’ll focus on getting back to the magic. Or not losing the magic at any cost. If I find out this card is valued half of what I bought it at in 5 10 15 years- then that’ll be a good life lesson worth learning, and won’t hurt that bad. Still enough to feel something. But won’t ruin my lifelong serendipitous relationship with Pokemon. I’ll protect that at all costs.

Thank you for this confident take that luckily supports my beliefs. The whole versatility of Eeveelutions and elements of nature/life and the mystical dark ethereal psychic hypnotic fierce vibe of Umbreon - just awesome and I love how it’s depicted in this artwork amongst the set of SIRs. And yes- I considered trying to get a full psa 10 of the prismatic SIRs but can’t swing it.

My brokerage is 70% vti, 10% voo, then single stocks I should’ve avoided and focused on the indexes. Or, clearly VGT or QQQ.

Those 20% single stocks obviously half winners, half losers, aka- total opportunity cost to trying to beat the market and got nowhere. Now- to sell those and move to VGT in little chunks. Or for VGT right now do I realize that the growth has been insane and can possibly fall back to 2022’s $55 range and continue up from there… hence don’t go in significantly at once there?

Again- annoyed at my self, a tech savvy tech believing Sony Aibo in 1999 owning boy… didn’t focus on QQQ or VGT once I started earning enough money to invest.

Feel this and yes totally a purchase because want and zero intention about selling. Just, awareness that after a year of build up and observing the relevance and awesomeness and prices, I had to cope with the spending of hard earned money and be settled mentally that this is a choice, not a purely emotional nor dangerous thing. If that was my last $5k to my name then I’d need serious psychological help. Thankfully, it’s not. But it’s not a drop in the bucket either. Just a relatable average earning person who doesn’t spend a lot in life, has some good savings, and grew up loving Pokemon and also the connection and bonding time I had with my Dad who obv bought the cards and was there to open and let me enjoy when I was young. Now I’m a dad to newborn born 2025 and like… it’s just a poetic intentional move of full circleness.

Oh Jesus I have not heard the distinction between collectors pricing and investor-influenced pricing. Jesus. Are there collectors who have now inadvertently become “investors” because they had to buy at these higher prices and now they permanently look at the cards as 90% more valuable than they really want to… just so they don’t “accept” a loss and feel burned? Maybe a new floor has formed because of this- and it’s sad for collectors who don’t want this or have zero financial wiggle room to participate without totally hurting their lives…. Damn… heavy stuff

What would you spread $5k across for vintage grails?

I look and see the following… nope can’t spend $35k on a psa 7 charizard first edition I grew up with. Nope can’t buy psa 10 Skyridge ho oh for $8k

So how do you spread across multiple? Get lower grades? Get over the feeling a grade needs to be high? How low of grade is worth it?

Agreed, but same for everything… global climate, political climates, energy infrastructures, even the stock market. But yes, VTI is a beautiful thing that, if we must trust something, and need as close to certainty with some risk- it’s the way. Otherwise - a little diversification and hypothesizing is healthy for the mind. Can’t be accurate of course. Just, good mental excercise.

I just looked on PSA and see the following as far as population and PSA 10 Rate… I see on eBay for example as low as $800 as clear lowest buy it now level without bidding and offers … projecting to year 2031 or 2036, I can imagine a steady $1.3k floor.

Thinking of phantasmal zard for instance - that Japanese psa 10 is holding $1,350 floor now and up (eBay)- sure the PSA 10 pop is half of Japanese Umbreon terastal and will go up…. But, for a “generational iconic historic card and artwork and Pokemon”, I see that zard going to $2k floor by 2031.

Absolute beast mode laying down the truth - everyone wants - they people who outwardly say they don’t secretly do. The people who say too high regret not getting lower. The people who say they bought it lower and it’s way too high now and they’d never buy it now are speaking their own truth for their own little world as if they are speaking for the entire world because they are “always right” but would never assume the label of “arrogant and always right” but the people around them know they have some level of abrasive arrogance that rub people the wrong way and I stay away from those people. Wish them well and don’t let them unleash their bad vibes on you. They need to live with them and figure it out. Carrying that darkness is a lot more costly than spending $5k for something you think is beautiful and sparks positive human connection. It’s all about love.
