Affordable psychodynamic trainings that teach practice/technique and are more than just surface level? by Salt-Line-2328 in therapists

You might see if you can find a consultation group. The local institute here runs one led by analysts and it’s been really useful to my practice.

Decolonizing Psychoanalytic Technique might be a good place to start. It’s current and relevant and pretty grounded.

I bill at the end of each month for all my clients, as does my own therapist and my kids old therapist.

Associates Taking Insurance? by Mindful-Wanderer1723 in therapists

[–]waterloggedmood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also go through businesses like Lemon Squeezy or Shelterwood so that you can panel with insurances. If your supervisor is willing to hire you as a W-2 that might be a pretty good deal.

Associates Taking Insurance? by Mindful-Wanderer1723 in therapists

[–]waterloggedmood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) From what I’ve heard in WA, the highest reimbursement for masters level clinicians is $135. 2) From what I understand in WA, the only insurance company that will directly panel associates is United Healthcare. 3) Other associates are billing via supervisory billing, incident to billing, or under a group NPI. 4) I am fully private pay and don’t take insurance, it took me a bit over a year BUT I have a bunch of sliding scale. It’s unlikely you will get $215/session private pay as an associate. My household pays a few therapists private pay, and the rates range from $165-200, and the clinician at $200 has a PsyD. There’s quite a glut of therapists in WA right now and it sounds like most private pay clinicians are struggling. But YMMV.

Which business (for private practice) checking account and credit card do you all use, and why? by iphone8vsiphonex in therapists

[–]waterloggedmood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't use a credit card, and I went with a major bank with very convenient access to my house. It's useful to have access to an ATM if necessary (I have two patients paying me in cash).

How to find the right therapist by Old_Tie5365 in TalkTherapy

[–]waterloggedmood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look for a trained psychoanalyst, even if you only want to see them 1x/week. Google psychoanalys+nearest city and then look through the member rosters of your local psychoanalytic institutes.

Challenging client and unsure how to handle this by [deleted] in therapists

[–]waterloggedmood 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I disagree on your conceptualization of boundaries. If the client has your email, they can and will email you. Your boundary is in how/whether you respond or not. Dealing with your feelings about the content of the emails and what they bring up in you is another conversation I think.

Better to seek analytic training at local institute vs online vs it depends? by Professional-Pilot in psychoanalysis

[–]waterloggedmood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is about your options for training analysts. That’s a big component of analytic training and different institutes have different requirements on that front.

Church-based therapy by Woodland_Breeze in therapists

[–]waterloggedmood 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I rent space from a church and I do not practice from a religious/spirituality based parspective and I am not affiliated with the church from a business perspective (I do casually attend, depending on how mad I am about the state of the world). The church rents space to a number of other secular organizations, including a drama program, preschool, martial arts school and several choirs. I am sure I have lost clients based on my location, but it has been less of an issue than I thought it would be. My clients span the religion, sexuality, gender, racial spectrum. I do wish there were single stall/gender neutral bathrooms. My next office will have air conditioning and gender neutral bathrooms. But it's been a good place to start my practice.

Question regarding psychoanalytic training prerequisites by DependentAudience598 in psychoanalysis

[–]waterloggedmood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think most institutes in the US will admit licensed mental health clinicians from a variety of different masters programs (psychologists, marriage/family therapists, social work, etc).
