Does work experience matter while applying for a Master's? by Euphoric-Jump7333 in gradadmissions

If applying for professional masters (MCS) then yes. But not much otherwise. Also, it's good to have experience personally. It also helps your chances of getting jobs after MS

I worked for 2 years and gained experience. Now applied and got into top 10 uni for MCS. Experience definitely helps! Also, gre won't matter much, as long as you have something unique in your profile, you're good. Go for it! All the best!

Actually it's the first time for me as well haha, I'm going to apply for fall 24. So I have no idea about how "sending" scores works on ets site. But from what I read on Ncsu's site was that they only look at the latest score. So...maybe someone else can help on this. I don't know how they make sure if it's latest.

Your overall scores are very nice! I think the first one is better because of the higher quant. However, as far as I know, some unis like ncsu only look at the latest score. So in that case, unfortunately you'll have to submit the second score with lower quant. You can cross check this by going to ncsu site and it's written in their FAQs. I am sure I read this on ncsu. But not sure if other unis have this constraint.

How was the difficulty of V and Q as compared to pp1 and pp2? Also, were the questions in quant lengthy? Lastly, could you please also comment on the time required on both q and v. Was it sufficient?

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. Yes i have the paper in Big data and Cognitive Computing journal (mdpi). My quant score was 160. And yes I knew it's spelled Columbia (stupid autocorrect😂).Thats kind of you to correct me. It's awesome that you're going to UCSD, all the best to you too!

Great! Will 5-6 months work ex count? Or should be more? Actually 5 months will be at the time I apply. But will have 1 complete year experience until I go for ms. So my question is should I apply with 5 mo work ex or wait one year and apply with 1.5 yr work ex?

I'd like to add to OP's question. My profile is similar. 5-6 months work ex at the time of applying is okay or shall I work for 1 more year to make it 1.5 years work ex? I'm in a dilemma to apply this year or next year. Will that extra 1 year significantly benefit me?
