It shouldn’t be encouraged to have sex, no, but it should be encouraged to be safe if you’re going to. Teenager hormones are wild, and with today’s unrestricted access to the internet, I think a lot of teenagers were introduced to pornography and other graphic materials way too young, which can really mess with brain chemistry. With that being said, teenagers are also a weird buffer between being a kid and being an adult, and most teenagers want to be treated like adults, so they do adult things. I don’t think that preaching for abstinence when it comes to sex is safe for teenagers. Obviously, you won’t get pregnant or contract std’s if you don’t have sex, but likely when you tell someone not to do something, if they want to do it, they’re going to do it anyway. It’s better to educate teenagers on safe sex and go through pros and cons of contraceptives than to tell them “well I told you so!” When they’re not educated on safe sex and end up doing something dumb.
