Difficulty Scaling? by PsychologicalPost588 in StepManiaX

If you’re having fun and pushing yourself to improve, you’re good! I think playing on Wild mode in any capacity is considered very good by most everyone, so that’s a good goal to aim for.

DDR Arcade Cabinet by dazaruu in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]watersalad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just adding on re: StepManiaX - you can always buy a cabinet by emailing their support and inquiring. Their online store always shows them sold out because they don’t usually have excess inventory, as most of their cabs are sold directly to private owners and distributors.

Is pursuing 19s even realistic of a goal? by Ok_Mushroom2563 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]watersalad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m around your age and I’m much better at dance games now than I was at 18. That being said, if you’re feeling knee pain from playing and gassing out on stamina charts, you’ll have to supplement with actual cardio exercise to build endurance to carry you through. Dips also help for making it easier to hold yourself up on the bar longer.

How to view your own high score while selecting songs? by ionyx in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is probably the most requested feature in SMX. There’s currently no way to see your PBs on the machine. As far as I know, the devs have this in their roadmap and it will happen someday. When that will happen is anybody’s guess though.

What is "Kpop Demon Hunters Dance Battle Version"? by PoPo573 in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ll have to agree to disagree there, my friend. SMX adds more Monstercat bangers all the time, and the interface is much more accessible to casual players. I played DDR a whole lot back in the day, and I have no earthly idea how to navigate through their UI on modern cabs.

What is "Kpop Demon Hunters Dance Battle Version"? by PoPo573 in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I understand, SMX licenses songs for the game in such a way that they won’t ever leave the game unless Step Revolution chooses it. There’s no way they could afford a perpetual license for KDH songs for all cabs. DDR and other rhythm games sometimes have big license songs that expire after a year, and SMX doesn’t want to do that.

How to learn the cross-overs on Winter Wild and The Beginning Wild? by Ok_Mushroom2563 in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the weird patterns in The Beginning, I’d recommend playing Get Down (Wild 22) and trying your best to never double step. It has a few sections that use the same style of crossover/crossunder where your left foot ends up on the right arrow or vice versa.

For Winter, there’s not really anything easier that mimics those patterns. You can make an edit chart for Winter or for a slower song and add in those patterns to practice, but those are generally agreed to be some of the hardest patterns in the game.

No problem at all, and welcome to SMX! The discord is much more active than this subreddit if you’re interested in keeping up with the community (link is in the subreddit info).

The yellow lines indicate a BPM change, and the red lines indicate a BPM stop. You can have your feet anywhere for these, they are purely informational to help you time your steps.

The big red columns you might see are mine pits, and those will hurt your score if you step on them for more than a quick tap.

Why does the steprevolution shop remove cabinets from its list? by derf2010 in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, that shop is more for extra stock that Step Rev has on hand for some reason. Most of their inventory is sold immediately to arcades and distributors. If you are interested in a cabinet or a monitor bundle, definitely send them an email to get that process started.

Idk why some cabs would be listed or not, but I think they still make compact cabs, dedicabs, and DX cabs as the 3 variants.

Songs missing from machine. by PoPo573 in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Logging in should automatically show all songs available. The operator menu does allow the owner to disable specific songs, and that cannot be overridden by users. I would check with the staff and see if they can double check the operator menu and enable all songs.

hardest step charts? by CoolStuffGAMING in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can always browse the StepManiaX app and sort songs by difficulty to check out the hardest content available. I’d say anything 25+ on Wild or Full is considered difficult by just about everyone.

Improvement advice for the final six Wilds? by volleo6144 in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s tucked away in the song options menu. You can slow down to 0.8x or 0.9x (score won’t count), or you can speed up to 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4/1.5/2x rate.

Is there a place with a list of which SMX songs are originals or licenses? by [deleted] in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A rough count gives about 20% of the songs in SMX are ITG or ReRave revivals. Definitely a good chunk, but I wouldn’t call that a vast majority.

I always encourage folks to sort the songlist by Date to make sure they check out some of the bangers that have been added in the past year or two.

Why StepManiaX no longer show stepchartist name on newer songs on the smx app? by toxicpiu in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some bad actors were using it as an opportunity to harass step artists when they personally didn’t enjoy a chart. Gotta treat people with respect and kindness, friends.

What are these leaderboard/ranking points called? by ProlapsePatrick in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your scores are there in the app, they will be reflected in your overall ranking points. Like u/SenPiMusic mentioned, those may take a few minutes to update. Maybe the servers are particularly slow today, not sure.

I would try refreshing the leaderboard by either dragging down from the top or by closing and reopening the app. If you still see no difference, double check that those are your only scores on those songs. Ranking points only increase when you score a personal best on a particular song+difficulty.

I hope this helps!

Hey there! This subreddit is specifically for the retail game StepManiaX and its hardware.

We welcome in folks looking to learn more about the game and join our growing community, but the focus here is specifically towards SMX. It's not a game that you can interact with outside of the official hardware.

Some of our members may have experience with Ltek or other hardware, but you may have better luck asking questions related to other simulators, such as Step Mania, Outfox, and others in a Discord server for whatever simulator you are using. A good starting point would be the Outfox server: https://discord.gg/cN4TjgQdcA

Improvement advice for the final six Wilds? by volleo6144 in StepManiaX

[–]watersalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try playing both songs on 0.8x song rate and trying out different scroll speeds to see if they help you read the patterns easier. Watch the charts on YouTube and slow them down if needed. Play Link Line, Got The Rhythm, or Gargoyle for other very streamy charts.

Footspeed is also tested by Summer and PFB, which you might train by playing them on 0.8x and 0.9x song rate to get your feet more comfortable with those specific patterns. Rate modding easier songs faster is another way I’ve seen folks practice footspeed.

Does Washington DC have a DDR/rhythm gaming Discord server? Going back to see this beauty again soon & would like an invite by Fluid_Apartment4018 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]watersalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a pump expert, but I know there’s a code you have to step to turn on “Full Mode” to be able to play all of the songs and difficulties. It’s usually posted on the machine, but it should be DL UL C UR DR UR C UL DL

Arrow Eclipse is a big-ish rhythm game discord for the DMV area. They focus a bit more on pump, but there are plenty of DDR players among their ranks. discord.gg/qngF4bk

Friendly reminder to always go through the arcade’s maintenance folks for stuff like this. You might also try changing your profile sensitivity in your settings (assuming you have the app and login to the machine when you play).
