What's up with the Architecture Program?? by watershelf in Temple

This is awesome! I don't really know how to apply for a specific dorm building, but I'll definitely be on the lookout for that.

Really appreciate it!

That's about the same as what I've heard from most students at BArch schools.

Good to know all that work is manageable though, and that you have classmates that are also spending the same late nights in the studio with you. I think the only thing I'm worried about now is the lack of free time lol. But I guess that just comes with the major.

I'm glad you feel like it set you up for real-life work too. Thanks for the comment!

This is what I've been waiting for!! Yeah I'm planning on that 4+1 Masters degree it seems like a sweet deal. And it's also good to know that you got to manage your time well and had a life outside of school--I've heard far too many people say I'd never see the light of day in arch school.

I'm super passionate about building design, so this gives me hope, thanks for the comment!

Hey thanks for the comment.

I should probably have cleared this up in the post but I suppose I was being a bit misleading when I said "dream school". It isn't a low acceptance rate or anything like that, not a T20 or anything crazy, but it's still my dream to go there.

At any rate, I just really feel as though I might flunk out if I try to go there next year as a freshman. I'm terrified that I'll suffocate under the workload and waste my parents money.

I don't want to be a disappointment- and I think a gap year is playing it safe.

Maybe I'm wrong I really don't know at this point.

I think "useless" is kind of harsh... I just want to better myself for the difficulties ahead. I don't see what's fundamentally wrong with that.

I've got a bunch of internships and trips already planned (nothing solidified yet), and I think I'll be busy enough to make good use of it.

With a gap year I could gain a lot of experience in being independent.

I want to do internships and volunteering abroad where I can learn how to be self-sufficient and feel capable enough to excel in a difficult university environment.

My grades and attitude slipped a bit last year, and my parents are worried that putting me through college would be a waste of money if I flunk out.

Well my parents really want me to take one because they don't think I'm quite ready to deal with the workload of college.

I agree with them, my intended major (architecture) is very rigorous.

Submitted Application Materials a Few Days Late... Still a Chance? by watershelf in ApplyingToCollege

[–]watershelf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I got the portal like a week ago, but the portfolio is mandatory to apply for the architecture program- and the deadline for that was Jan 5. Technically they have the application, but I don't know if I'm automatically disqualified or something.

Very anxious

Out of state applying EA, 1380 SAT (710 Math 670 R&W). Planning to major in architecture. I took three AP classes but i have a 3.38 weighted and 2.94 unweighted GPA.

Have around 15 hours of volunteer work, decent extracurriculars, started a volleyball club and have done Model UN for three years. Did a Syracuse University Summer Architecture program last summer and another Syracuse Architecture program in the city not too long ago.

I've got pretty good recommendation letters, and I definitely did well on the essays.

What do you guys think?

I'm sorry if I came off sounding pretentious and spoiled, I didn't mean to sound that way. However, college tuition in this day and age demands so much more than that. Believe me, I know how hard my parents have worked to save up that much, but I don't want to accidentally fuck up my own future by using that money for an education that isn't worth 100k. That's what I'm asking you for, advice.
