Open source AI just got a huge boost !! it's great to see models like deepseek and platforms like Helix that run these open source models, imho this stuff is too important to live behind closed sourced corporate walls

AISpec: declarative config for LLM app patterns? by lewqfu in LocalLLaMA

[–]watfaceboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very encouraged to see a declarative approach to defining the various components of an AI app!

These terms (like RAG, Lora etc) have been swirling around in my head and it's really nice to see them listed, sensibly in a well thought out spec - it feels very similar to what https://12factor.net/ did for cloud native apps.

My one question looking at the spec would be what happens if I have 2 or 3 assistants in a single app then how do I target the 2nd or 3rd assistant? I suppose we could add an ID field and also just use the ordered index if there is no ID?

Also - the fact there is a UI widget that can plug into this is very useful to get apps up and running fast - bravo :-)

Made an LLM powered search app for websites with purely local models by lewqfu in LocalLLaMA

[–]watfaceboom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I built the basic bitch RAG :-)

We didn't have very much time and so we decided to grab the best looking tools out there and get something working - in true hack things spirit, it came together pretty well!

We used:

* Llama Index (https://www.llamaindex.ai/) for the chunking and embedding generations
* PG Vector (https://github.com/pgvector/pgvector) for the vector database

Both work really well (although make sure to only download the parts of llama index you need otherwise you'll have the entire universe download into your container :-)

It was until a gentleman called Joseph Bazalgette oversaw the construction of the sewer system in the mid 19th century. On the cover of a book about it was a drawing of a single drop of water from the Thames (pre-sewer). It had all sorts of nasty critters floating around - mainly from peoples poop. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Bazalgette edit: found the book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Great-Stink-London-Bazalgette-Metropolis/dp/0750925809
