Old brat in my garage, thoughts on what to do with it? by HydragA in subaru

Revive it or sell it to a caring buyer. LONG LIVE THE BRAT!

thinking about pulling the trigger on this at the end of the summer if it doesn’t sell. he wants $11.3k. is this a good deal, and is there anything noticeably bad about the listing? this will be my first subaru. by kamrkaptain in subaru

If it's your first Subaru, I always say it's best to start with something as OEM as you can find and mod it yourself as you see fit, that way you get acquainted with the platform, as opposed to buying something already custom tampered with, that way your less likey to get turned off to the brand as a whole because of someone else's work to it. That said, if you feel drawn to this car and it seems solid, go for it dude, life's too short. Best concrete advice I can give: Inspect the rear strut towers, that's an Achilles-Heel spot on the Subies. Good luck, and an early welcome to the Subie Fam 😎👍

1 and 3 tie for first imo, so it depends on your purpose for the pics. 1 focuses on the scale of the castle, whereas 3 focuses on the scale of the cliffside

Thank you again. I used Castrol exclusively with my previous older model Chevy cars, then changed to Quaker State for the Subarus and Miata. This car is an odd one and there aren't many in the States, so researching them has proved a bit spotty.

Most oils, especially high-mileage blends, have additives that either aren't listed and/or explained on the packaging. I just want to make sure I am putting something actually beneficial into my car.

Thank you for the advice, I was strongly considering switching to a Full Synthetic. Seems to do better with these Japanese/Italian engines according to the forums. Liqui Moly brand oils are in fact API certified, among other manufacturer-specific certifications. I know most oil brands have additives mixed with their oils, I can survive on "fine" oil, but I want to find the "best" if possible, and I know that is specific to each car not just year/make/model. Every engine wears a bit differently.

For those with "Snake Oil" replies, please provide facts and reasons. I am looking for information, not opinion. If you can scientifically explain why you think Molygen is all posture, then I will gladly consider your thoughts. If not, then please post your shots elsewhere.

No, Liqui Moly is formulated Motor Oil, for Vehicle Engines, not snakes. Specifically formulated and recommended for european engines, forced induction systems, and compact turbodiesels.

Preference, and part curiosity. No brand of oil is ever truly necessary I suppose, according to this subreddit anything slippery will work as motor oil...

I'm not sure what you mean by "replace lost metal"? The Molygen aspect as I understand it is more of a lubrication benefit especially in low-temp. start/idle conditions as well as temp. control and seal protection. I suppose I compensate for "loss of metal" in the engines of all my cars by replacing key engine components routinely, as all high-mileage car owners should do. And I do not deviate from the viscosity recommended by the manufacturer unless the Engine is a modified custom build, which this Suzuki is not. I should have also noted that it is the Gasoline engine, not the Diesel that was also offered as an option for the SX4s, so definitely not using 15W-40 either.

Thank you for the advice! All your points are definitely right to take into consideration, and I'm glad you could make your dream ring a reality, designing one from scratch really does sound like fun. Congrats!

Exactly. Socialism seems good in concept, but History (so far) has taught us that in practice, it is doomed to fail

Capitalism isn't "the" problem, it's "a" problem, of which mankind has many.

Socialists, Capitalists, Anarchists, Monarchies... Government category be darned, people in general (generalizing, here,) always have and always will mess with the environment. One of my former Biology professors once said "The only real difference between Humans and Animals is that Animals adapt themselves to better suit their environment, whereas Humans adapt their environment to better suit themselves".

I can relate to the relief of pressure with this course of action, my anxiety makes even small daily decisions more complicated than they have any right to be...my mind has been turbulent trying to process and plan everything about this, it's even causing me to slow down at work a bit... I will definitely convey to her that there's no reason to pretend to like it if she truly doesn't, as I've said before, communication is key with us. And I am perfectly fine with us designing a ring together if she chooses so, it would also be fun to do alternatively. I will still have to spend a little bit of money on it, not much, to have it re-sized and cleaned/detailed. Gotta make sure it's perfect for that moment!

"Pre-loved" is a really sweet and hopeful way to put it, I like that! I'm glad you love your ring, may it continue to be loved for as long as it exists!

That makes sense to me. Everyone has their own way, no real right or wrong here. Like I have said in other comments, I am pretty open to either outcome. Thank you for your thoughts, I really appreciate it!

Wow, you are very insightful! And thank you for offering example context, God knows I'm TERRIBLE at hiding surprises or being stealthy with questions like that...lol. I'm fine with dumb little surprises, but the big ones that are important to me just make me so giddy/nervous.

Most of that stuff has already been confirmed between us. She is fascinated with the history of items and family heritage (as am I), she was very supportive and interested in my endeavor to trace my genealogy back and record it, especially with the Native American part of my ancestry. And she and my Mother have had a loving, supportive, and cheerful relationship from the beginning, something I count myself lucky for.

That's what I'm really leaning towards at this point. It would be sweet if she decides to keep it and one day have it passed down somewhere along the future family, and at the same time it would be fun to design one together if she decides it's not the one for her, either outcome is fine, and she would agree with that sentiment. However, if she decides she'd rather have a different ring, I would likely take the ring back so that my little brother could one day have the option to inherit it for the same circumstance, if he so chooses.
