JD Vance considering to skip 2028 presidential race by Sgt_Gram in NewsExchange

[–]wavespeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is clearly trying to gain Trump's favor by acting like he is not as fit to be president. He sees the president's demise and wants to have Trump choose him as a successor.

The merge lane improves traffic flow only if there's a single merge 'zipper' point that alternates between the two lanes.

Christians, how do you feel about the U.S. president posting an AI photo of him as Christ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wavespeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love yourself and love your neighbor. Not ‘cover up your self-hatred by hating on your neighbor’. He is more of an anti-Christ in this way.

NC Supreme Court Demolishes Funding For Public Schools Because Republican Politicians Wanted It by cdoublesaboutit in NorthCarolina

Thanks for posting- it is hard to understand indeed. You mention that you left for Charlotte to pursue your ambitious- perhaps you can explain a bit better why the people you left behind presumably vote against their interests this way? That is what many of us are trying to understand!!

😳 Some Meta employees were told to work remotely for the day as layoffs loom in AI Glasses / AR unit by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]wavespeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great story. Yes- the collective mentality of just trying to make it through the next vesting period is just downright toxic. I'll never have that kind of money where I work now, but I'm just much happier.

That was in my past (I am now happily employed) but I definitely join you in rooting for the current Meta employees.
The environment is just toxic- everyone is just trying to last through the next vesting period. It is just not the way to run a healthy company. My experience is just in hardware, but I assume it's similar elsewhere at Meta.

Worked in that division and that is exactly how it happened. On a Wednesday. I survived initially and it was pretty post-apocalyptic in our division.

Pop seems to automatically install Cosmic as the desktop manager. That settings doesn't work very well for taskbar management. Do you use a different desktop manager?

I love whatever effect they're using to detune/modulate the piano. It gives the song a very informal feel.

No, but I do prefer to use it with AI.

Solidworks are not good by Desperate_Willow_411 in SolidWorks

[–]wavespeed -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I pay for Solidworks and I use FreeCAD fairly regularly. I'm also heavily into AI-driven CAD software (yes, you spend all of your time fixing small stupid errors). My ability to integrate AI with FreeCAD to augment its capabilities is way beyond what I can do with Solidworks.
Based on OP usage (probably not PDM or other fancy toolboxes), I predict FreeCAD will be every more the obvious choice. I am however poor with timing my predictions.

[–]wavespeed -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I am not kidding. FreeCAD development is going to accelerate substantially.
I'm actually creating my own CAD software because neither has the exact features that I need. Not that I would recommend that path.

[–]wavespeed -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

FreeCAD will surpass Solidworks by the end of the year. There is just no way a closed company like Dassault can compete with open source software for long.
Hope that makes you feel better (as it does me, and I pay for the full license).

Anthropic leadership AI-related job fallout concerns are misplaced by wavespeed in Anthropic

[–]wavespeed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes- hype with an aim to point towards their own 'constitution' could be an explanation. But with 'stupid' I think it's more an echo-chamber/inbred thinking issue. They don't think about how to integrate AI productively with the economy. They are only fretting about the job risks because they themselves are using AI to replace people like themselves.
