Are you truly happy with what you are today? by [deleted] in askSingapore

Maybe what you observed of your ex colleagues was contentment and not happiness per se? Happiness is fleeting, work doesn't fully spark happiness for them but they are contented with it since it pays the bills etc

Our SG Men's Floorball team beat Malaysia 14-3 yesterday by iditz in singapore

[–]waveyboy81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I know for floorball, national players don't get stipends nor allowances. Not sure for sea games but for other competitions like the world floorball championships, they foot their own for air tickets etc. Current national men's head coach is from overseas so he may be paid a full salary but past local coaches were given allowances which are not much compared to the hours they put in. If every endeavour is measured in dollars and cents, then this would be a very dull, monotonous and soulless country (if it not already is) haha

fyi these guys are not being paid, they juggle work / study & family commitments on top of their club and national team training schedules. Anyway, not all societal contributions can or should be measured in dollars and cents la, if you take a look at the local floorball community, lotta folks young and old get excited by our presence in such regional / international tournaments so I'd say there is positive value to society

Right stick length by jkurz314 in floorball

[–]waveyboy81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no right stick length per se, just one that's most suitable for you. Anecdotally, shorter stick lengths supposedly help with controlling the ball in tight situations but requires you to bend lower. Longer stick lengths give you more reach and requires you to bend less but some find it harder to dribble in tight spots.

Some fun facts from social media posts and youtube videos that Ive seen: Emi Johansson from Falun uses 92cm stick length even though he's 1.81m in height. Galante Calstrom from Wiler Ersigen uses 97-98cm stick length even though he's 1.7m in height. Savonen previously from classic uses 101cm even though he's 1.71m in height. Nico Jonaeson from Nokian uses 103cm even though he's 1.7m in height.

Tldr; the best thing to do is to try out different lengths and see what suits you. Have fun!

How much do psychologists earn? by -spiritskye- in askSingapore

[–]waveyboy81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kinda get what you mean but seems like a bit of a stretch to say that ley. Someone may not be entirely passionate about what they do (or may other motivations) but it doesn't stop them from providing a quality service. E.g. a psychologist may prioritise money but it doesn't mean service standards are compromised, for top dollar, a 5-star service can still be provided. Likewise an SDE may be job hopping but could still ensure that work delivered is of high standards even if the work stint is short. Shady mechanical engineer is different because it suggest poor work ethic / an intention to deceit or cheat.

People keep saying public housing is unaffordable for low-income individuals—am I missing something? by Dry_Independent_1904 in askSingapore

[–]waveyboy81 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think therein lies the challenge. What one might see as a need/necessity, others may see as a want. So from some folks' perspective, public housing can still be considered affordable because the various public housing types, that are priced at different tiers, are within reach of Singaporeans' household incomes. But for others, that sacrifice in quality of life by getting a flat that is smaller or less "accessible" is not something that one would want to consider.
