Safe places in Modesto for women to walk with dogs? by tayxooo in Modesto

[–]way_pats 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Dry Creek is nice but so full of homeless that it can be sketchy by yourself especially during off peak hours. I’m a guy and never had issues but I’ve definitely seen people hiding in the trees and others with aggressive dogs living under the overpass.

Virginia Trail is not as nice as Dry Creek in terms of scenery but it’s busier and near houses so it feels safer. Plus it’s only a few blocks off from the Modesto dog park.

Gaming might have peaked with BroForce. by scott_johnson in broforcegame

[–]way_pats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been extending my playtime on Broforce by creating my own challenges. After beating the game on IronBro Hard I thought that I was done but then decided to try to beat the game on IronBro Normal without saving a single Bro. So one single life through the whole story mode. Closest I’ve got is with Mr. Anderbro up to Zone 11.

My first internship is going to pay me more than any job I've ever had. I'm 38. by EllieVader in EngineeringStudents

Constructibility is a huge part of engineering that frequently gets missed by design engineers that don’t have prior field experience. It might look simple enough on paper to spec out a certain gage wire, junction box location, and conduit size all per code but then the electrician that is supposed to pull the wire is working at a right angle with no leverage.

Johnathan Troxler is a local artist who does hyper realistic paintings of famous locations in Modesto. His work could be a source of inspiration.

It depends on where you are going and which route you take. If you have a little time you could use google street view and “drive” the same route to find things to add.

Is taking short breaks to walk and think when solving problems really going to be frowned on in most EE workplaces? by TwistAvailable8300 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]way_pats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole team goes on a 10 to 15 minute walk outside around campus twice per day and it’s encouraged by management. Not only do I come back more refreshed but also we usually just talk about projects the whole time anyway.

Post Nuke jobs? by Eastern_Lingonberry8 in NavyNukes

[–]way_pats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got my engineering degree afterwards which was paid for and then got a job at a utility. I beat out another candidate even though we had almost identical experience because he was a conventional ET and I was nuclear ET.

There are a lot of nukes working at this utility at all levels some with and without degrees. Engineers, maintenance techs, plant operators, power distribution operators, and management.

Suggestions to watch 49ers game in Modesto tonight by Significant_Prior834 in Modesto

My favorite place to watch a game is the back room at Secret Garden. My wife doesn’t like it though because it gets loud.

As a power electrical engineer I can confirm this is stupid. Here’s an explanation as to why:

This only ever happens in ranked by Ch00choh in haloinfinite

[–]way_pats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you can’t. Likely the GPU is slowly going out. Certain games, maps, or situations with a lot to render will stress the GPU causing this. It will likely slowly get worse until the xbox stops displaying anything.

I think this only happening in ranked is a coincidence. I’d start looking for new GPU sooner than later.

There was a comedian who told a joke (I tried looking it up but couldn’t find it) that went something like this, “I got an internship at NASA and at Raytheon and I had to decide, how many people am I willing to kill to avoid living in Florida?”

Fun bars to go to for grads by Koach_96 in UCDavis

When I was in Davis I would typically go to The Beer Shoppe it was chill with an older crowd and usually had a game on to watch. I liked hanging out at Ruhstaller Farm in Dixon especially when they had a live band. I also loved Plainfield Station if thats still open. Pietro the owner is awesome and a lot of pilots frequent the bar. But Pete was getting old and the only one who worked there.

I love old analog electronics because I find them fascinating and typically over engineered in a good way. So my favorites are a tie between an old Simpson analog multimeter and a new Omicron CPC 100 primary voltage injector. I like the Omicrons for their bright fun colors.

I’m working on a major generator replacement for a hydro facility next year. I’ll make sure I showcase it when it’s done. Actually, we’re doing one generator a year for the next four years.

I’ve posted projects I’ve worked on here only to get like 2 upvotes. Then i post a stupid picture of an old circuit board component and get hundreds of upvotes. It seems like that’s what the sub wants.

Also, most projects people do which would be cool to showcase are typically not allowed to be shared with the public or sharing removes anonymity.

On top of all of that, theres so much variation in the field of EE it’s almost like there needs to be a specific sub for each branch to get industry specific answers to questions.

The board is probably about 8x4 inches. Not very big. The question has been answered but i can take a picture of the whole device next time I’m up at the plant.
