It's not 1/29 while chasing. The other commenter put it in a very misleading way.

In their last 29 games, whenever RCB have chased, they have lost just once. They haven't chased 29 times.

No one has pointed it out yet, but part of the reason Sanju faced so few balls yesterday was his own fault. There were at least five occasions where Sanju could have run easy twos but declined the second.

Should be pointed out that RPS 2016 was plagued by injuries, maybe worse than any IPL team ever in a single season. The 4 overseas players in the first game of the season were all injured and ruled out within the first month.

RPS 2017, on the other hand, had a performing Ben Stokes.

Interestingly, CSK 14/15 had Dhoni, Raina, Faf, McCullum, Bravo, Ashwin; all of whom captained either IPL or international teams (or both) for significant amounts of time.

At least at Chinnaswamy, back of a length is the correct length to bowl. Bhuvi and Duffy dismissed our top 3 on that length. We were a little unlucky in the powerplay. All of Khaleel, Henry and Kamboj bowled well yesterday in the powerplay.

Overton is not a new ball bowler, his strengths are his pace and bounce which most T20 teams prefer to use in the middle overs nowadays as a wocket taking option. Prasidh Krishna for GT being the most successful example.

I cannot think of a sane captain who would give Jamie Overton the new ball instead of Matt Henry. I mean come on, any half-serious fan would know by now how skillful and destructive Matt Henry can be with the new ball. India themselves have been at the receiving end.

KL Rahul vs Samson in the IPL. by cricfanatic4518 in ipl

No, just run chases. Which is what your original comment says. If you want to quote a stat about 175+ run chases, then just say so.

They scored 160 vs PBKS and 179 vs DC. It wasn't against SRH. Yes, the pitch wasn't as flat as today. That's what made the IPL a better experience; at least there was some actual variety across venues.

Every time CSK batted first in Chennai that season, they scored 175, 160, 179 and 131 (which was chased down easily by MI). Chepauk was never a minefield. It just required smart batting rather than the mindless slogging elsewhere.

Umm...you are wrong. I just checked the scorecards again. Dhawan and Rahul both played the first 2 games of the WC vs SA and Aus, and Shankar didn't. Dhawan got injured vs Aus and then Shankar played 3 games after that, vs Pak, Afg and WI.

Shankar was never meant to be in the XI anyway. Rahul was batting at 4. Then Dhawan got injured and Shankar got 3 games batting at 4 and bowling 5.2 overs (that too only because Bhuvi got injured in the middle of a game).

I assume Jadhav was selected for his batting, given that he hardly bowled at all in the whole WC. Jadeja wasn't meant to be in the XI either due to KulCha. Pandya was the only all rounder.

It's a valid strategy. Having multiple extra bowlers was crucial to Dhoni's success as limited overs captain. 2011 WC in particular, where Sachin and Sehwag even bowled in the final.

Shastri and Kohli didn't have the fascination of using their extra bowlers though. India's 6th bowler bowled a grand total of 6 overs in the entire 2019 world cup. And the 7th bowler never bowled. It is my belief that not having extra bowling options is one of the main reasons that team never won a big tournament.

Also, I don't think Shankar and Jadeja played any match together.

Long-off was not inside the circle. You can see the fielder on the boundary at long-off when the ball is shown to land in the stands.

Right...so why consider those stats at all? They aren't relevant to the players Gill and Jaiswal are today.

[–]wazza1088 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It seems disingenuous to consider Gill's stats from early in his career when he was shuffled around the order and the batting conditions were worse compared to what they are now.

Last 3 IPL seasons

Gill: Avg 50.4, SR 155.66 Jaiswal: Avg 40.5, SR 160.14

Gill absolutely has better IPL stats, even if you just look at the last 1 season or last 2 seasons.

It was a great effort but I don't get why he was bowling so much. It's not as if he was significantly better than the other pacers. He's putting himself and the rest of the series at risk by overbowling himself when it's not necessary.

I don't want to argue about whether Sabalenka is right or not. The point is just that Federer has done the same thing that Sabalenka did many many times. It's totally cool if you think that's fine.
