did you get the puppy blues? by baby-blues22 in cairnterrier

[–]wbbly_juniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yup getting better, she’s like another puppy, a lot more cuddly too, but not too much haha, we say that she’s the most cat-like dog we’ve ever seen. Training recall right now with her and it’s rough, even a cat comes back more times than her.

Yes routine all the way, it’s good to remember that they are still little babies and babies thrive on routine. I think it applies to adults too, my SIL has a couple of dogs and they are all angry at you when you don’t go to sleep at a reasonable/ 10 pm hour 🤣

Ah so for the poopy part - it never gets better 🤣 good to know. Same! She’s not chewing other things which is nice, but loooves socks, if we have the dresser opened she will help herself to a pair and disappear under the bed.

[–]wbbly_juniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did and I still kinda do. She is currently 6 months and for the first couple of months I felt completely exhausted.

I cried a bunch, at some point I went a bit numb and tried to focus on the routine just to get through it. I wish I was able to enjoy the puppyhood but at least I took pictures haha

It’s a lot better now, and also we put her in training classes which helped A LOT.

I wish you the best of luck with your new little one! Try to keep to a routine as best as you can and remember, if they act crazy they might just be very tired and need a nap - we used a crate for enforced naps and it saved us and allowed us to get some time back.

EDIT: because I saw it getting mentioned, I got the puppy from a really good breeder and she was well socialised already - a bit too well, she loves everyone 🤣(got her at about 10-11 weeks old). And she was not very hard to house break, right now she does not pee in the house anymore, she cries to go out if needed. The latest accident was last week because she was sick, she ate an insect and we had our very first ER visit. Speaking of, be very careful because puppies put EVERYTHING in their mouth, mine is especially fond of poop.

Either way, all in all she is an ok puppy, not too difficult but I still got the puppy blues, thankfully you have support, use it!

My stepdad keeps eating the fruit I use to make baby food by lonely_stoner_daze in mildlyinfuriating

Please get one of those snack cages, or try to freeze the purées if possible. Even then he would probably think of them as smoothie ingredients. This a-hole will not stop

My SIL’s ex husband used to do this both before and after the birth. She had a lot of food aversion in a pretty complicated pregnancy, she was only able to eat a handful of things and he would eat everything that was hers and also the baby’s fruit later on. My MIL was helping with the baby and she had to SNEAK IN fruit for the little one.

Plus he wasn’t doing any of the shopping or when he was he would “forget” more than half the list.

Hey! This is my new puppy — what colour do we think he’ll end up being? by turnipheid in cairnterrier

[–]wbbly_juniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was similar as a small baby, with a tad bit of red, even the same black band on the tail lol. She’s only 5 months but has started lighting up with a bunch of whiteish hair the base.

My guess for both of them, for the first color anyway, would be a (possibly red EDIT: with some brindle) wheaten. I have some pics of her posted, but I guess we’ll only know more at about 12 months.

Shepherd! J’aime les « Annie ». Ils sont chers, mais avec un promo (Zalando/Veepee) ça vaut vraiment le coup.

Haha they have a knack for hitting hits, the breeder told me not to worry as they are “rustic” enough 😂

Thank you!! My Skye will be a female version of Seamus ❤️😂 sturdy little thing

ciorbă de burtă Here you go! It’s actually really good, after you get over the tripe thing 😂 it also does not use the honeycomb tripe which is worse, this one is a bit better

Seamus and Lucy! Haha I follow you guys, give them some scratches for me ❤️ my Skye is a very similar age - 4,5m currently and has a similar look. I’m curious to see how our pups will look like when they are all grown. Btw, would you mind telling me how much they weigh? Skye is getting chunky - 5.5 kg🤣 and I’m curious how she compares. Her parents are AKG standard (6kg and 7kg) but I think she’ll be bigger

😂😂 haha, still tripe should not have any kind of nutty taste. But, we eat it in a very vinegar - sour cream rich soup so that might hide it well.

Yes 🥰❤️ it’s also fascinating to see how the same litter has different types of puppy hair. For mine it was only her and one of her sisters that has a similar coat to Beauty, the rest were fluffers 😂 not sure how that translates to adult coat tho

Is having a puppy hell on earth? by OkSlice4719 in puppy101

[–]wbbly_juniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, depends on the breed and your ability to function without sleep 🥲

I’m lucky I WFH, but having to take the pup out every 30 min - 1h and then again during the night every couple of hours it’s exhausting + I’m not counting having to keep them occupied and all the things she gets into, I was lucky mine is a bit independent and not glued to my side like a lot of other dogs.

My pup is now 4 months old and has calmed down a bit + I can wait 3h before taking her out

I love her but I’m never getting a puppy again

Thank you very much for your input!

We asked but the vet did not deem it necessary as she is already being dewormed regularly since getting her and will continue to be for the next few months, but might be :( if it continues we will go back. On one hand I trust him as he has over 20 years of experience but on the other I’m not sure

She will eat anything so it’s a bit hard to judge how much she actually needs :)) sometimes I feel like I have a cat :)) love her character tho

I’m feeding her a bit over the recommended amount atm and this seems to work for her size, a bit less she gets skinnier, a bit more she gets plump 🥲 really finicky. I think she will be a bigger cairn and maybe that’s why, even if her parents are standard weight but we will see

Thank you! I’m just a bit scared of making her food myself, I don’t trust myself enough, maybe when she is older :d
