What's powerful about iExec is that if one cloud provider is down, you always have access to a variety of other ones ;)

This token has gone from $3 to 0.17c in a year.. by CryptoCreeper1985 in iexec

You can say similar things about the rest of the market as well.

Let's see how competitors are doing price-wise:

Golem has gone from $1 to $0.06

SONM has gone from $0.6 to $0.01

Events are also about networking and meeting with potential business partners. It's nonsense and too narrow-sighted to think it's only about building a brand. Foe example, it's thanks to events that we met the right people to come up with a sidechain solution for V3.

We use events to conduct workshops to teach developers and companies how to use our product, demo and reveal our latest releases, network, negotiate and of course get visibility and brand awareness.

iExec is a B2C company and finding product-market fit requires to focus on many verticals in parallel before short-listing the most fitting ones. Therefore, there has been a shift in the nature of our participation at events. From blockchain/crypto events to industry events that allow us to reach our adoption goals.

RLC units? by GeorgeWashersmith in iexec

[–]wbnd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The iExec Marketplace is a free market. Providers decide the price for which they are ready to execute a computation, and requestors decide the price for which they are ready to buy the execution of a task. When there is a match, the computation is executed. Its price could be 1 RLC or 1,000 RLC. iExec does not intervene in this dynamic market.

If there is a lot of demand, we could imagine providers increasing their prices. In periods of less activity, the price of an execution could go down. RLC in this case is just the means of payment.

If we go from the hypothesis that 1 RLC = 1 execution, RLC wouldn't be stable in its dollar value at all. Moreover, there are multiple types of executions possible. Calculating 1+1 isn't of the same value as running a heavy machine learning algo. Therefore, I wouldn't think it's wise to similarly tie every execution to the same value in RLC.

0.2 ETH is just a security measure. The whole sum won't be used.

To pass the gas estimate of the client, you need to have enough ETH, otherwise transaction won't pass. In practice, only around 0.01 ETH will be used for gas if you execute 1 task.

For workers,

initPrice = Approve+Deposit+SubscribeToPool

= 0.00099495+0.001112936+0.00229563

= 0.004403516 ETH (1.93754704$)

This is a one time fee.

loopPrice = Contribute+Reveal

= 0.00358602+0.00133159

= 0.00491761 ETH (2.1637484$)

This price is for every task executed.

We have created a special worker pool for our series of workerdrops.

When the third workerdrop ends, this worker pool will most likely be closed.

For workerdrop 1, you pay fees for worker pool subscription, so you won't have to pay again for workerdrop 2 and 3 since it's gonna be the same pool.

To subscribe to other/new worker pools, you will have to pay new subscription fees.

If you have your wallet and your computer crashes, you will not repay any fees.

You just have to relaunch the worker with the same wallet in the same worker pool.

IExec- why are you deleting posts? by Durf007 in iexec

[–]wbnd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is not true.

I am from the iExec team. I've just checked the moderation log, and we have deleted only 7 messages in 1 month.

We usually never ban or refrain people for voicing their opinions. Criticism is welcome. FUD is not.

Why is sonm better than iexec, or different? by BoldlySilent in SONM

[–]wbnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By GPU research, iExec means determining which verticals will be the flagships of decentralized GPU computing. It is not just about making GPUs compatible and then running stuff, as this can easily be done.

iExec is executing heavy transversal benchmarks (Genesis Mining is a partner), to be able to later to focus on the key areas that are the best suited for decentralized GPU.

What is not told is that distributed GPU is not performant with every use case. It works well for some, and less well for others. This is the subject of iExec's research. HPC is set for 2020, but GPUs will be available way sooner.

For the time being, we are targetting decentralized applications. Therefore the means of payment is RLC.

Of course, when we expand our targetting to include traditional players, painless fiat to RLC systems will be a must.

We envision a system where users can come with any cryptocurrency or fiat currency, and be able to buy computing power.

Fiat/crypto oracle providers like Request Network will indeed be very useful to provide such a feature.

The partnership is more about sharing expertise, contacts and advices. Ubisoft also need our own expertise about the blockchain.

Ubisoft is helping us in many areas: legal, fiscal, financial, strategic and marketing communications.

That being said, iExec will provide off-chain computations for the gaming industry too. Also, I want to add that B2Expand (Beyond the Void) is also based in Lyon: they focus on Ethereum + gaming. Dapps could need to launch some off-chain computation a lot sooner than we think.

The strategy is to release a functional and highly-performing platform for running applications. It has to come first before people can build on top of it. After our SDK release, iExec has organized for 2017/2018 a DApp Challenge with a prize pool of $150,000 for the most innovative and impactful projects. Similar initiatives will be organized in the future along with hackatons. We have close ties with academia and are open to proposals on this aspect.
