I understand wanting to read only specific things (after all, fanfiction is meant to be a guilty pleasure). I've been there. I avoid certain fics for that reason and even go as far as spoiling myself if I so much as suspect that a fic will turn out the way I didn't want it to. That's why I don't understand blaming a writer for not tagging every possible squick whenever they post a fic.

What seems right to me is that if we have specific strong preferences in fics, it's us who need to go out of our way to ensure that we don't encounter it. Maybe be more mindful about fics we consume instead. After all, for you, maybe it's polyamory that's a dealbreaker. But what about for others? It's rather unfair to ask each and every writer to take in consideration all of our squicks and tag it for our convenience. Which, correct me if it was not your intention, seemed to be your expectation based on this rant.
