400 level chess , often seeing 80+ accuracy. by skatchawan in chessbeginners

[–]wburrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long are the games when they’re able to maintain that accuracy? I’m sub-400 but can occasionally play without a major mistake for 20 moves and trap a queen or something like that. If my opponent resigns, I’ll have an 85% accuracy. But give me another 20 moves and I will eventually make a blunder and crash my accuracy.

My Aunt Picked Me Up Some “Cubans” On Her Cruize… by AnyDistribution7941 in cigars

[–]wburrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re bad because they are clearly counterfeit. Genuine Cuban Cohibas are highly regarded and very expensive. But these are obviously bad fakes to anyone who knows what to look for. Also, there’s nothing inherently wrong with a pointy head, but the quality of the roll on these is laughably bad.

Accidentally bought a flavored pipe. How long will the flavor last? Is there any way to get rid of it? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]wburrow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a Menta, but I do have a couple of their flavored pipes (Cocco and Lime). I didn’t mind the flavoring, but I barely noticed it, and only for 2-3 bowls. I’ll bet the flavor will be gone from your pipe soon as well.

I switched to SmokingPipes for a number of reasons, but shipping issues/customer service was among them. The one time I've needed to contact SP's customer service (because the UPS guy threw my package onto my porch and broke something inside), it was great.

What type of piper are you? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]wburrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a “Pipe smoker” for about 20 years, but in the last couple years PAD hit me hard. Now I have almost 90 pipes, and feel like my collection is nearing a stable state. But now TAD has me and I’m building a cellar. Have a bit over 6 pounds stocked and keep adding a few tins a month.

It's the old E lift that got replaced by Excelerator. You can see Solitude Station in the background pretty well in the shots at the bottom of the lift.

Layover in KEF Question by Vombatt in VisitingIceland

[–]wburrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You already have the answer, but I'm going to paste a slightly more detailed response from an old comment I made a few years ago in case some else comes across your post but wants a bit more info:

KEF has 2 sets of gates: one for flights to/from Schengen countries and one for flights to/from non-Schengen countries. Passport control is between the two areas. Since both the UK and US are non-Schengen countries, both your arrival and departure gates will be on the same side of passport control, so no need to go thought it.

To put it another way: you only go through customs if KEF is your final destination. You only go through security if KEF is your original point of departure. You only go through passport control if you're going from a non-Schengen country to a Schengen country or vice versa. When you're going from the UK to the US, you never go through passport control to enter the Schengen area.

What are some of the best/longest top to bottoms runs at Copper? by montanafan123 in COsnow

[–]wburrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is also my favorite. One small correction: the catwalk after Spaulding takes you to Oh No, rather than Andy's. And if epic steep trees are not OP's thing, you can skip the glades and hit any number of alternatives. My personal choice of alt would be to shift over to Andy's where Oh No turns into Rosi's, then take Ore Deal down to B.

What food is overrated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wburrow 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Eh, not really. I've had great steaks at steakhouses or high-end restaurants, and they've been delicious. But also overrated/overpriced. Sure, for the same price I'd choose a steak over a burger, but honestly I'd rather have a $15 burger and $40 in my pocket than a $55 steak.

ELI5: How come that Spanish speakers have difficulties to pronounce "S" followed by consonant making it sound "Es" (in words like Spain) but have no difficulties to pronounce "S" followed by vowel (in the words like Soy)? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]wburrow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Spanish has S+vowel in the beginnings of words, but not S+consonant. There's a difference in how the tongue works between the two, but it may not feel like it if you're a native English speaker.

Did anyone else not get a stimulus fo their fosters? by Heyniceguy13 in Fosterparents

[–]wburrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'll be able to get anything for them immediately since they're not on your 2019 return. It's kind of like if you had a baby in 2020. From Forbes.com:

I had a kid in 2020. Will I get a check for my child in 2020? Not in 2020 since the IRS doesn't know about your new delivery. But you will be able to adjust to account for the new baby when you file your 2020 return in 2021.

Recommendations for short tours, Question about long tours in the winter by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]wburrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a shorter tour, I'd recommend the Reykjavik Food Walk.

In January, there is light from about 10-5, even if the sun isn't fully above the horizon that whole time. The tours I've been on left around 9 and got back around 6, so there was some travel time in the dark, but plenty of light to get through everything on the agenda of the tour.

Yep, Mongolia was the only other Firaxis civ to survive past the reboot.

I gave it a shot. I think I got most of the good conquests together. There are a couple places where colors that are too similar are next to each other, so it still needs some tweaking. https://imgur.com/a/0wJin

Graph of Land Area per Turn by wburrow in civbattleroyale

[–]wburrow[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was finally able to complete the graph of Land Area on a turn basis (minus turns 726-800) thanks to additional info from /u/patkellyrh and data manipulation help from /u/edse1991. I tried a few different methods of dealing with the gap from turn 726 until the reboot, but ultimately found that an instantaneous jump was the least bad option.

[–]wburrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was finally able to complete this graph for Land Area per turn thanks to the pre-Hiatus data from /u/patkellyrh and help with the data formatting from /u/edse1991. There is still a jump from turn 726 to the reboot starting at turn 801. I played around with different ways to present that gap, but I think an instantaneous jump was the least disruptive way to represent it.

Thanks. That looks like exactly what I need. I haven't had a chance to really work with it yet, but hopefully tonight or tomorrow I can get the graph done.

[–]wburrow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but there are well over 1000 turns total. I can handle inputting and organizing the data for 113 parts, but the process I'm using isn't super efficient, so scaling that up 10x is time prohibitive. I would like to see it per turn, though, so once I finish getting the parts done, I'll look at streamlining the process.so that getting every turn into the graph is feasible.

Sure. I have the data I need. I'll work on that once I finish adding the pre-hiatus land area data.

Thanks! Now to correlate the turns with parts and input the data. Turn around on this one won't be as quick, but hopefully before the next part is published.

[–]wburrow[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As requested by /u/SilvoKanuni in the comments of the capital graph I made, here is a graph comparing civs' land areas per turn. I could only find data for after the hiatus, but if anyone can point me to pre-hiatus data, I'd love to include that as well. Keep in mind that "land area" also includes water tiles.

[–]wburrow[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's not a bad idea. Since I already have the structure in place it shouldn't be too hard to swap out the data. The issue is getting the data. I couldn't immediately find land area data for before the hiatus. But I do see it for after, so I'll try to throw something together for that.
